Ted Cruz Defends Gun Rights, says New Gun Control Proposals Are "Unconstitutional"

In an interview with FoxNews, the conservative United States Senator from Texas, Ted Cruz, has called the proposed gun control measures "Unconstitutional."

Cruz said he believes politicians have jumped to exploit the tragedy in Newtown, Conn. to push their own agendas and said he believes the current gun control proposals –including Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein's bill to create a national gun registry– are unconstitutional.

"I don't think the federal government has any business of having a list of law-abiding citizens who choose to their right to keep and bear arms," he said.

The 42-year-old senator suggested improving the federal database to help background checks to better indicate possible mental health of a potential buyer.
