Lumberton ISD Looks to Replace Flawed CSCOPE Curriculum. Thanks LISD! Other Schools Should Follow

From the moment I first brought up the flawed Texas CSCOPE curriculum to the Lumberton School Board over two months ago, and through the national controversy over the Lumberton Muslim Burqa School Lesson a month ago, I never once blamed the Lumberton ISD School Board. They, like most people, did not realize the massive problems with CSCOPE. I personally know some of the board members and I know they are Christian Conservatives who would have never allowed CSCOPE at LISD if they would have known the secret problems within CSCOPE (pro communist lessons, incorrect answers, lack of transparency, bias against Christianity, calling Boston Tea Party Patriots Terrorists like 9/11 Terrorists).

Sometimes though, change is hard to get unless you really stir things up and expose enough problems. Although I did not blame the board, what I did do (via writing articles and contacting the school board) is I helped show the board, and the Lumberton community, that CSCOPE is very bad, and then pleaded with the board to take action.

I am very excited to say that the Lumberton School Board has listened and they have formed a committee to examine how CSCOPE can be replaced at Lumberton ISD.

The Lumberton curriculum committee is to be made up of district employees, parents and other community members, and it will present its findings to the administration and board by the June school board meeting.

I encourage other parents and taxpayers in other Texas communities to do the same thing. Go to your local school board meetings, speak to the board and plead with them to stop using CSCOPE because of all of the problems. Then take it further, get a group together and start speaking louder. They might not listen to one voter, but they will listen when a group of voters starts demanding they do away with CSCOPE.

A Hardin County man's trial was dismissed on Wednesday because the lead investigator in the case is the target of a federal investigation, said District Attorney David Sheffield.

Sheffield said Toby Langham's sexual misconduct case had to be dismissed because Sheffield learned that Hardin County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Jerry Roberts, the lead investigator in Langham's case, was being investigated for child pornography allegations.

Sheffield said the defense would have used that information during the trial to hurt the prosecution's case.

Last year, Langham was indicted on charges of sexual assault of a child, indecency by exposure, and sexual performance of a child.

Sheffield said his office will review the charges against Langham and see what can be brought back to a grand jury for possible re-indictment.

City of Lumberton, TX Bans Republican Women of Hardin County from Meeting in Community Center

The City of Lumberton, TX and City Manager Steve Clark have kicked out the Hardin County Republican Women's group from using the Lumberton "Pete Trest" Community Center.

The Community Center is a city public building that was built for the community to use. There is of course a rental fee that must be paid to use the building to cover building expenses and to pay for a city employee to be at the events at the community center.

For nearly every month in 2012, the Hardin County Republican Women's group paid to rent the building for their once a month meetings. Even though it is a women's group, it is the only Republican group that meets on a monthly basis in Hardin County and men are welcomed. I went to some of the meetings at the Lumberton Community Center last year.

Everything was just fine. The rent was always paid, the city never had any problems, and the meetings were getting better and better. Just a couple of years ago, most elected officials in the county (Hardin County) were Democrat. Now most elected officials in Hardin County are Republican. This Republican group has played a big role in helping grow the Republican Party in Hardin County. The Republican Women of Hardin County group is a part of the Texas Federation of Republican Women.

The County and City still have some old Democrats who do not particularly like to see their good ol boys lose elections or be forced to switch to the Republican in order to stay in office in the now Republican County. Apparently, the Lumberton City Manager, Steve Clark, does not like the progress that the Republican Women's group has made either, or at least he does not want the Republican Women's group to meet at the Community Center anymore. The question is why? I don't know whether or not the city manager is one of these old Democrats, but I do know for a fact that most of the local city officials and city manager tried to stop Governor Rick Perry from coming to Lumberton last year to endorse State Representative James White. James White won instead of Mike Hamilton (who most of the Lumberton city officials openly endorsed). Maybe they are still mad about that?

Here is what we know for sure. For nearly every month in 2012, Lumberton City Manager Steve Clark allowed the Republican Women's group to rent the Community Building. He accepted their money. He signed off to every monthly request to use the building. He never once objected to the Republican group using the facility.

Well, out of nowhere, right before the January 2013 meeting, the City Manager told the Republican Club they are no longer welcome to use the community center ever again for a once a month meeting.

I contacted the Hardin County Republican Women President, Janis Holt, and asked the reason they were banned from using the facility. Janis Holt said that the City said that there was a policy that does not allow anyone to use the community center for monthly meetings. They said that the Community Center could only be used for random parties or events and therefore the Republican Women could not use the center for scheduled once a month meetings. As a disclaimer, I want to say that Janis Holt did not ask me to write this article. She would probably actually rather me not write this article because it might stir some things up and she does not want the Republican Women's group to get hurt. I understand that and so I want to make sure to include this disclaimer that Janis Holt did not ask me to write this. I am writing this article on my own because, well, I have a habit of sticking my neck out there because I believe that shining light on the government doing wrong is a good thing to do even if I have to take some heat for it. What happened here is wrong and I personally felt that it needed to be exposed.

First of all, what kind of community center does not allow organizations to meet at the community center and pay the fee just like any other event?

Second, it seems as though this policy is bogus and was made up to kick out the Republican Club. If this was a real policy that had been in effect for years then why did the city manager allow the Republican Club to use the community center for nearly a year? Is he that incompetent? Why didn't the City Manager speak up after the second monthly meeting last year instead of waiting until several meetings and a year later? I do not think he is so incompetent that he did not know the Republican Group was meeting on a monthly basis. He knew they were and he had no problem with it. The city manager did not speak up sooner because it was not against policy for the Republican club to use the community center for monthly meetings. It only became a policy after, I can only assume, the the City Manager did not like the last election results or got tired of the Republican Women's group becoming more successful. He can't stop the group from meeting, but he can ban them form meeting in the community center.

I have been asked why I believe that this "new" policy and the city manager's actions are targeting the Republican club only and not any other clubs. Well, the answer is simple. The Hardin County Republican Women were the ONLY group using or requesting to use the community center for monthly meetings. So, if the Republican group was the only group meeting at the community center, then logically this new policy banning monthly meetings was directed at, and only affected, the Republican group monthly meetings at the community center.

The City of Lumberton, TX has some major problems. This is just one of more recent problems but it is very revealing. The City Manager kicked out the Republican club from the COMMUNITY RENT CENTER for crying out loud. A once a month meeting is just too much for the center to handle I guess. Maybe the City Manager should rename it as the non-community center.

Community of Lumberton to Get Liquor Store, Not Restaurant as Advertised by Dennis Williams in Alcohol Sales Debate

The Community of Lumberton will soon get a liquor store soon in front of Grace Lake Estates and Westwood Subdivision, in between Walton Road and Chance Cut-Off (see map below)

Remember when the issue of alcohol sales in the west Precint of Lumberton, TX was initially brought up several years ago? Some businesses, specifically Developer Dennis Williams, said they were pushing for alcohol sales in order to bring nice restaurants into the Community of Lumberton over there on Hwy 69 and that there was no threat of liquor stores moving in. The people of Lumberton wanted to be able to vote on this issue. They wanted to have a say in deciding to keep things the same or if they want to change their community and transition to a regular city like Beaumont and away from being a fairly safe and peaceful, Texas bedroom community. I am all for the people getting to decide on important issues like this so I got the issue on the ballot and was going to be satisfied with whatever the people of Lumberton decided. That is democracy right? Well, the residents in the City of Lumberton actually overwhelmingly voted against alcohol sales in within the city limits. They said that they like their community the way it is and are just fine with going down the road to get their alcohol if it means the trouble associated with those establishments will stay down the road too. Like it or not, that is their decision to make and they made it. Sometimes people just like things the way they are now instead of making big changes. Change is not always good, just look at what Obama has done under the theme of change. Anyways, Lumberton moved past that issue and is doing great. The City continues to grow and has no problem balancing the city budget with the current sales tax revenue and all without a city property tax. That is miles above the budget problems that some of the surrounding cities have recently had even though those cities have a property tax and alcohol sales. The drainage problems are getting better in some areas of Lumberton because of the detention ponds built with hurricane money, and there is even a road about to open through the middle of the city that will help local traffic to be able to get back and forth through the city.

Although the City limits of Lumberton cannot have alcohol sales, there is actually a part of the Community of Lumberton on Highway 69 in front of Westwood Subdivision that is not in the city limits. This area is in the Community of Lumberton, but it is just outside the city limits and therefore they can have alcohol sales. Here comes the fancy restaurant right? Wrong. There will soon be a liquor store moving in. It is being developed by Dennis Williams. I guess he lied about wanting to bring in restaurants and no liquor stores. Did anyone really believe him anyways?  Now this liquor store is of no concern to me because it is not in the city limits of Lumberton and therefore does not go against the vote of the people. I just think it is ironic that they are building a liquor store and not a fancy restaurant as promised when they were pushing for alcohol sales on that side of town. After all, these big-city fancy restaurants are just dying to move away from the bigger city of Beaumont and into the smaller community of Lumberton right? Apparently they don’t because if they did then they would be building a restaurant in front of Westwood Subdivision instead of a liquor store. I personally would rather support the great local establishments we have here in Lumberton anyways instead of letting them be taken over by the national chains.

Lumberton’s Commissioner, Bobby Franklin, Employs Man, facing 3rd DWI, as County Truck Driver

An anonymous source called me last week and informed me that Lumberton’s Hardin County Commissioner, Bobby Franklin, is knowingly employing a man to drive county trucks even though this county worker is facing his 3^rd DWI. This source informed me that this man, who goes to trial later this month for his 3^rd DWI, was never, and still has not been restricted from driving county vehicles. Even when his own personal vehicle had to have an ignition interlock system on it, the source says that this worker was still driving county vehicles without restriction.

After this call, I of course had to do some investigating and fact checking.

I found out that William “Bill” Roach works for Commissioner Franklin and Mr. Roach will be going to trial in Hardin County on July 25^th, 2011 for his 3^rd DWI arrest. Roach’s 3^rd DWI incident occurred in August 2009. Roach was indicted in January 2010 but had his trial date pushed back and pushed back until July 2011. Commissioner Franklin is still allowing Mr. Roach to drive County Vehicles and is very possibly putting the taxpayers of Hardin County in harm’s way, at the expense of those very same taxpayers.

It seems like someone is killed or injured every day in Southeast Texas because of a drunk driver. Just last week 2 road workers were hit right here in Lumberton by a drunk driver.

I have no sympathy for anyone who drinks and drives and I am shocked that the tax dollars of Hardin County residents are going to pay a man to drive county vehicles even though this man is facing his 3^rd DWI.

Hardin County Judge Ends Alcohol Sales in Lumberton

Hardin County Denies Lumberton Alcohol Permit


Hardin County Judge Billy Caraway has revoked the Alcohol permit for the gas station in Lumberton.

Billy Caraway stood up for the people of Lumberton and I greatly appreciate that.

The county had wrongly issued the permit in the first place so it was good government for the county to correct itself.

It was clear, based on previous elections, that the people of Lumberton did not want alcohol establishments in Lumberton.

the people should decide important issues within their own city limits and it was great that the Judge listened to the people of Lumberton instead of ignoring their wishes like that the Washington politicians are doing to us.

The gas station (who's owner is not from Lumberton, does not care about Lumberton, and in court he did not even know when he bought the gas station) will be appealing the decision so it is not over.

The appeals court will have a say in the matter, but at least our own local official judge Billy Caraway stood up for what is right and revoked the gas station's permit.

Call or email Judge Caraway and thank him for Standing up for the people of Lumberton and standing up for the law by not allowing a store to illegally sell alcohol in a dry area.

Hardin County Denies Lumberton Man Democratic right to petition government. Facts prove County clearly wrong

Hardin County Wrongfully Denies Lumberton Man the right to collect signatures for a petition to prohibit the sale of alcohol in Lumberton. Facts prove that Hardin County is wrong to deny petition. Democracy and the People’s right to vote are under attack in Hardin County.



David Page, a senior citizen and a long time resident of Lumberton who is not against anyone drinking but just likes Lumberton the way it is as a quiet bedroom community, has submitted an application to circulate a petition to prohibit the sale of alcohol within the city limits of Lumberton so Lumberton can stay dry like it always has been.



The county clerk and the county attorney have flat out denied the application for a petition from David Page. Remember last year when they denied Lumberton the right to vote based on some technical questions about the law. Well the State of Texas changed the law just for Lumberton so they could vote. You would think the county would let Lumberton finally get to vote now right? Wrong!



What was the excuse that Hardin County gave David Page for denying his request for a petition?



County Attorney Rebecca Walton told David Page this week, “You want to get a petition together to dry up Lumberton, but Lumberton is already dry. Lumberton is in JP precinct 5 and it is already dry. Everyone who lives in the city limits of Lumberton is in a double dry area. The city is dry and the JP Precinct 5 is dry. The sale of beer is not legal in Lumberton. Nothing is legal in the city limits of Lumberton”



This is completely and factually false. The county attorney is factually wrong and has wrongly denied this application for a petition. By the County Attorney’s own admission, JP Precinct 3 is wet. It is a fact that parts of the west city limits of Lumberton extend well into JP Precinct 3. This means that there are parts of the city limits of Lumberton that are wet because the western city limits of Lumberton extends into the wet JP precinct 3.

So it is an undisputable fact that there are parts of the Lumberton city limits that it is legal to sale alcohol because it is part of JP Precinct 3. So why did the county lie and say that there is no part of Lumberton that is in wet JP Precinct 3 and therefore there is no part of Lumberton that is wet and so Lumberton cannot vote to be dry. The county denied the petition by lying and saying no part of Lumberton is wet but it is a fact that there are parts of the west Lumberton city limits that alcohol is legal because it is in the wet JP Precinct 3.

Maybe the county did not lie. If the county did not lie, then they are just incompetent and do not know the city boundary lines and they do not know how to read a simple map. Wait, that sounds familiar. Didn’t the county already not know their own county precinct lines? There is a gas station in a dry area of Lumberton that is currently selling alcohol because the county allowed that gas station to sell thinking it was in a wet precinct. The county had to come out later and admit that they made a mistake and that the gas station selling alcohol was actually in a dry area and not allowed to sell. But it was too late and the gas station is still selling. Is this another case of the county not knowing the simple boundary lines of the county?

Commissioner Bobby Franklin lives a stone’s throw away from this gas station that sells alcohol. How could he not know where his own precinct lines end and whether or not the gas station was in his dry precinct? How could Councilman Don Burnett not advise the county that this gas station was in a dry precinct. Burnett was on the committee that decided these precinct lines so he had to know that these gas stations were in a dry precinct and should have never sold alcohol. Furthermore, Don Burnett knows that there is a part of Lumberton city limits that is currently wet and yet this councilman has not informed the county attorney. Instead David Page has informed us that councilman Don Burnett called him last week and tried to get him to not do a petition against alcohol and Don Burnett instead was trying to persuade David Page to do a petition to legalize alcohol.

Something fishy has been going on for quite a while. Now it is finally getting exposed. It is a fact that Lumberton is part of the wet JP Precinct 3. This means it is a fact that part of Lumberton is wet. This means that the county either knows this info and simply lied to David Page, or the County is simply incompetent on more than one occasion when it comes to looking at a simple map to see if the city Limits of Lumberton extends into the wet JP precinct 3. Either way, it is not good for the county that they have wrongfully denied David Page a petition. Even worse they have denied the city residents of Lumberton a chance to vote once again. This mistake is so blatant that the county will not be able to talk themselves out of the big mess they are getting themselves into now.



In the past the county has gotten out of trouble by saying they did not know the boundary lines. Well David Page showed the county attorney the map of Lumberton which clearly shows that the city limits of Lumberton extends in the wet JP precinct 3. Even after seeing the map the county still said Lumberton was all dry and could not vote and they rejected the application for a petition. It is believed that David Page will be getting a lawyer soon to sue the county for wrongfully denying him a petition. The county has no chance of winning because any judge looking at a map would be able to see that the county is wrong. Not only is the county wrong for denying the petition. The county has also stalled long enough to possibly make David Page have to wait until next year to do another vote instead of this year as David Page was going to petition for. So the county’s incompetence is once again keeping the people of Lumberton from voting and there would probably be severe legal repercussions for the county for blatantly wrongfully denying David Page a petition to allow the city to vote.
