Wendy David Abortion Filibuster gives TX Gov. Rick Perry Positive National Spotlight Among Conservatives

Setback at Home May Propel Perry Nationally

Gov. Rick Perry addresses the National Right to Life convention in Dallas.
Many Americans remember Gov. Rick Perry as the man who could not remember. He was the presidential candidate who famously forgot, in a nationally televised debate, the third federal department he wanted to shut down.
But this week, after Democrats scored a rare legislative victory on his home turf, blocking a bill that would have put strict limits on abortions, the national spotlight is revisiting the governor of Texas. And how he handles this moment could affect his hopes as a 2016 contender — and his reputation as a leading figure of the Republican far right — as much as the inglorious “oops moment” from his ill-fated 2012 run.
While the Democrats can stage rallies and demand abortion rights, it is Perry and his Republican-led Legislature who have the power to get abortion measures passed. And when his work is done, he no doubt will portray himself on the national stage as an unapologetic defender of bedrock Republican principles — the kind voters in those early primary states say are in danger of slipping away.
“The only way to get a second look is to become a champion of the conservative values that the base considers more important than anything else,” said Larry J. Sabato, director of the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia. “They’re looking for some one who is not going to tiptoe through the tulips. And Rick Perry seems to enjoy crushing tulips.”
It is still far too early to predict Perry’s future. He has not ruled out another run for governor next year. Nor has he definitively thrown his cowboy hat into the 2016 ring, though he is clearly contemplating it. Whatever he does, the fight over abortion rights in Texas will figure prominently into his political talking points.

from Caroline May of the Daily Caller: http://dailycaller.com/2013/06/18/poll-ted-cruz-more-popular-for-2016-presidential-run-than-rick-perry-among-texans/

Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz outpaces other potential 2016 Republican presidential candidates in Texas, according to a new poll.
The University of Texas/Texas Tribune poll found that in a match-up of other presidential primary possibilities, Cruz fared the best in Texas, even overtaking Texas Gov. Rick Perry.
In the poll, Cruz took 25 percent of the vote among self-identified GOP primary voters. Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul came in second with 13 percent, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio was third with 11 percent, then Perry with 10 percent.

New Perry TV Ad: I’ll End Obama’s War on Religion (Video)

Texas Governor Rick Perry has a new ad that will be hitting the airwaves in Iowa. The ad is titled “Strong.” This ad goes on the attack against President Obama. It is one of the most aggressive ads of the Presidential Primary Election.

Rick Perry has a very clear message in ad: “I’ll End Obama’s War on Religion and I’ll Fight against Liberal Attacks on our Religious Heritage”

This ad will greatly help Rick Perry. Now that many of the early bumps in the primary are over, voters will start to look at the records and experience of candidates to determine who they will vote for. This is where Perry will shine because of his strong conservative record. The ad does not attack any fellow Republicans. The ad is focused directly on President Obama. The ad deals with an issue (the War on Religion) that has really caused Christian Conservatives to stand up and fight back against Obama’s radical agenda. Christian American’s are tired of seeing special interest groups get special rights and privileges while the rights and privileges of Christians are being taken away. Obama has done everything from restricting prayer at soldier’s funerals and restricting bible verses in the Air Force to refusing to follow the Constitution by upholding the laws passed by Congress like the Defense of Marriage Act.

Earlier this year, Rick Perry led a Prayer Rally in Houston, TX called “The Response.” This is something that the Founding Fathers of America would likely have also attended.
