Texas Transvestite Teacher Confuses 5th Grade Students at Lumberton ISD – Suspended after Outrage

The small, predominantly Christian community of Lumberton, TX is once again about to hit the national scene. The Lumberton Independent School has suspended a transvestite teacher. There will be a School Board meeting this Thursday night at 7pm where it is expected there will be a large number of outspoken people from both sides who show up to speak during the public comment time. State Board of Education member David Bradly had this to say regarding the upcoming school board decision, “He does not have to be fired as substitutes are not under contract. The district just fails to call him for the next days work.” Furthermore, men who want to dress up as women are not a protected class under the Constitution or state law and therefore the teacher can be fired. Especially in schools, there is broad authority to make decisions based on what the people of the community wants and believes is in the best interest of the vulnerable students of the school district. I suspect the man will try to sue and we will have a trial with national implications.

If the board goes into executive session to privately discuss personnel, some believe that the School Board will also discuss who hired him in the first place and thought it was ok for him to wear a dress in front of 10 year olds who were so distracted that they could not take their tests. Superintendent John Valastro has taken heat in recent years due to high profile issues. In this case, Valastro is not over picking substitute teachers, but he did suspend the teacher following the recent complaints. I have written several articles regarding Lumberton ISD issues, from vulgar school plays with cursing, to CSCOPE, to students wearing Muslim Burqas, to liberal teachers wearing vote Obama shirts and telling students not to watch Fox News. John Griffing’s WND story on the Burqa issue led to national attention and even helped push out CSCOPE curriculum on a statewide level (although it is still around).

Lumberton is a great community and has a great educational environment compared to other public schools. I live here and I personally hate to see the school getting so much negative attention because it is not a reflection of the majority of the teachers and administration. Unfortunately, in order to fix problems and make sure they do not happen again, you have to expose the problems. It is a dirty job but someone has to do it.

I first heard about the issue when my youngest brother came home and told me about the kids talking about a male substitute teacher that was in a different class. This teacher was signing his name as Mrs. I thought that was strange, but I did not realize the extent of what was going on until I heard Chip Darby talking about the issue on freedom 1300. Apparently there was a male teacher wearing a dress and makeup at the Lumberton Intermediate School.

The teacher’s name is Laura Jane Klug (born Kurt Klug). I looked him up on Facebook and what I found was an emotionally disturbed and confused older man. He has not always wanted to be a woman. According to a note he posted on his Facebook page on July 7^th, 2011 titled “How Much More Can I Take?” Kurt Klug was emotionally distraught and seemingly ready to give in with his life because of the pain of his female wife leaving him. The pain and distraught of his wife leaving him must have driven him to decide that he wanted to become a woman. From 2011 until now, Kurt changed his name to Laura Jane Klug and started dressing up like a woman and acting like a woman. He has joined many lesbian, gay and transgender pages on Facebook. Oh, and he also likes Texas Politician Dan Branch’s page.

Let me get one thing straight, I do not hate this man, nor am I angry at him. I feel bad for him. He was so hurt and emotionally distraught that he was driven to wanting a radical change. He seems like he was and maybe still is a Christian, but he is certainly hurting and has lost his way. We all have issues and this is his issue.

That being said, a school house with young, impressionable, easily distracted and easily confused children is not the place for this man to be. The school has very strict dress codes and boys cannot even have long hair. The environment is controlled to minimize distractions so that the students can learn. Like it or not, a transvestite is a distraction. Not only that, he frightened and confused many students who then went home to their parents who had to have age inappropriate conversations with their children.

Roger Beard, whose son was in the class Klug was subbing, is an outspoken parent who talked to the local Channel 12 News about this issue. He said what concerns him is the distraction he believes a transgender teacher poses to ten and eleven year old children.

"If it does affect my child and his ability to learn or if it causes questions that I don't feel are appropriate then undoubtedly there's an issue with having somebody transgender, transsexual or transvestite, to be teaching that age group," Beard said.

Sheli Jones Wells also had a child in the class and she posted this comment on Facebook about the situation, “I did have to explain to my daughter what transgender was last Thursday afternoon because it was her home room class he was in. I was none to happy to venture down that road with my 11 year old. Judge? No. But do I have reservations about WHY this person wants to be in our schools for $60 a day, you better believe it.”

I wanted to hear what others in Lumberton had to say, that is when I took to Facebook to see what I could find out from friends who work at or have students at the Intermediate School.

The response I got was overwhelming.

Longer Recording Released of Ken Paxton’s Underwhelming Answer to Stopping Common Core and CSCOPE as Attorney General

At the end of November, I posted up an article, Shock Recording: Ken Paxton Not interested in Stopping Common Core or CSCOPE as Attorney General.

The article included a clip of a voice recording where Ken Paxton is asked about CSCOPE and Common Core. Ken Paxton responded by saying the Attorney General will probably won’t get involved in that.

In response to the article, I had some Paxton supporters contact me and say that the audio clip was cut short. They alleged that someone cut the recording short and that Ken Paxton did say he would not get involved, but then went on to say he will fight these things as Attorney General. This bothered me because I certainly would never post any audio that was altered, or that was cut short in a way to make it appear as though someone said one thing when in fact they go on to answer the question in further detail.

I think Paxton is a good guy and a conservative. I only oppose him now because I believe that Barry Smitherman is better than Paxton. I truly believe that Barry Smitherman is even more conservative and will be more of a fighter. It is the little things that no one sees that sets Smitherman apart from Paxton in my mind. Such as Paxton Missing Hundreds of Votes and Smitherman Missing None, or Smitherman rejecting budget increases for his office while Paxton voted to increase his office budget.

That being said, I would never post anything false against Paxton, so I went on a mission to find a longer version of the audio recording. If the audio I had was cut short then I wanted to make it right.

I did find a longer version of the recording. I uploaded this longer version to YouTube and posted at the end of this article for everyone to hear. This audio recording shows Paxton answering a question before the CSCOPE/COMMON CORE question, and then he answers the CSCOPE/COMMON CORE question, and then this longer version also shows him going on to answer a different question about redistricting. This longer version clearly shows that the original voice recording I posted a month ago was accurate and Paxton was not cut short in the recording.

Also in response to the article, I had some Paxton supporters contact me and tell me that Paxton stood against COMMON CORE and CSCOPE as a legislator. To this I replied that I never said he didn’t do that as a legislator, but he is not running for the Texas Legislature, he is running to be the Texas Attorney General. What he did as a Legislature is good but I want to know what he will do as the Attorney General. His response that as Attorney General he will probably not get involved was surprising to me. But since Paxton did not know he was being recorded, I believe his response to show his true intentions regarding the issue. Barry Smitherman has come out and stated that as Attorney General he will fight against Common Core and CSCOPE. Why wait for a lawsuit as Ken Paxton has said should happen before he gets involved? Attorney General Greg Abbot did not wait for a lawsuit. He sent a letter to CSCOPE and told them to comply with the law and they did. There was no lawsuit there but Abbott was being proactive and defending the laws of Texas. Smitherman will also be proactive in defending Texas from illegal use of CSCOPE and Common Core. Paxton clearly states that as Attorney General he would probably not get involved unless there was a lawsuit. That is not good enough for me.

I welcome Ken Paxton or his campaign to reply under this post any response to this recording and what Paxton said in the recording. I have not received any statement from Paxton regarding this recording or else I would have posted it here.

Barry Smitherman Stood for Religious Rights of Kountze Students with Greg Abbott

As Christmas nears, one thing we are talking about is the Merry Christmas bill. The Merry Christmas bill was passed this year to allow teachers and students to be able to celebrate Christmas in schools without fear of lawsuits. This is a great bill, but it only scratches the surface of stopping the attacks against Christianity in schools. The Texas Attorney General is on the front lines defending the religious rights of Texans and Texas Students.

Texas Attorney General Candidate Barry Smitherman does not just stand up for Christian Conservative values, Smitherman goes out of his way to get involved. From rallying against Common Core and CSCOPE, to promoting the Merry Christmas Bill, Smitherman has been there. Just last week, Barry Smitherman went way out of his way to speak at a Women on the Wall #CanISee anti-Common Core community meeting in Frisco, TX organized by Alice Linahan.

Since we are on the topic of standing up for students in Texas, I want to let everyone know about how Smitherman stood up for the religious rights of cheerleaders at Kountze High School. Many people do no know about how Smitherman went out of his way to stand up for the religious rights of students in the small east Texas city of Kountze. Kountze, TX is a small city in Hardin County in East Texas. Last year there was a battle of ideas that occurred here. The Kountze Cheerleaders made their own signs with their own money to hold up at public football games after school. Some of the signs had encouraging Bible verses on them. The Wisconsin based freedom from religion foundation did not like that these signs had Bible verses on them. This anti-Christian organization is known for going around the country finding people to threaten with lawsuits unless they back down from anything that even mentions God. These students have a Constitutional right to express their faith, even in school. Unfortunately, many organizations and individuals do not have the money to fight a lawsuit so they just give in to the demands of the freedom from religion foundation.

These students in Kountze, TX were not backing down from their faith or from their rights. The students and parents started speaking out and created a facebook group. They took a bold stand. Word started to get out about the situation and the cheerleaders got some legal help from the Liberty Institute.

Texas Railroad Commissioner Barry Smitherman heard about this situation in Kountze, TX. Smitherman probably had lots of important issues on his plate, but he took time to get involved and stood up for these kids in Kountze. I am from Hardin County and I was very involved in standing up for the Kountze Kids. Barry Smitherman personally sent me a hand written statement expressing support for the Kountze Kids and standing up for their Constitutional rights.

This really impressed me and this is one of the reasons why I really support Barry Smitherman. Smitherman got involved even when no one was looking. His actions are exactly what I would expect from a possible Texas Attorney General. In fact, your current Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott did get involved to defend and protect the religious rights of the Kountze Kids.

Dan Patrick Continues Fighting for Texas School Reform - SBOE and Patrick agree in Graduation Reform Vote

The Texas State Board of Education voted in late November in support of education reform that is in line with what Dan Patrick has publicly argued for.

Even though the 2013 Texas legislative session is over, State Senator Dan Patrick (candidate for Texas Lieutenant Governor) has continued to push for better education standards in Texas. I have previously written about Patrick because he has been a leader in standing for conservative education reform. Patrick helped fight back against the liberal CSCOPE curriculum (which has still survived behind the scenes). Patrick fought for school choice and pushed for expanding the number of charter schools in Texas. Also, during previous sessions he has been one of the few legislators fighting to stop the 20% tuition tax on college students.

So what was voted on recently? Well, Texas is trying to reform Texas Graduation Standards in order to better equip Texas students for graduation and for getting a job after graduating. These reforms include 5 different graduation paths that students can choose to go down in order to graduate. Texas students have different minds and different talents. These different paths will allow students to graduate with more focus on the skills and trades that better suit them, while still getting a well rounded foundation. Not all Texas students go on to college and these customized plans will better prepare Texas Students for working in the real world once they graduate. Not all of these graduation paths require all advanced fields like Algebra 2.

Dan Patrick pushed to keep these different graduation paths intact and the Texas State Board of Education voted to keep them intact as well.

Looking Beyond Algebra II

Graduation plans, curriculum, and testing in our state's education has been the source of hotly contested debates throughout Austin and across Texas. For years, students have followed an education system to prepare them for a four-year university track. We have seen progress in this area and increased the rate of students going on to universities. The problem has been that we have neglected the hundreds of thousands of students who have no desire to attend college and drop out of school as a result. What's more, we have neglected the hundreds of thousands of businesses that desperately need new skilled trade workers entering the workforce.

Jobs for Texas, a coalition of 21 industry trade organizations representing over 300,000 Texas employers was organized in response to this growing shortage of skilled laborers. Superintendents, teachers, and parents joined this effort to expand graduation options and reduce testing. Legislators in the Senate and the House heard the call loud and clear and took action to pass HB 5, which establishes a foundation graduation plan and five endorsements that students can choose. These new pathways will enable to students to work with their parents and counselors to design a graduation path that focuses on their skills and talents and better prepare them for college and careers.

The collaboration and unified effort behind this legislation was unprecedented. Unfortunately, much of the focus on this groundbreaking legislation has revolved around a single course: Algebra II. Since the beginning of this discussion, we have been accused of "dumbing down" education, and "reducing rigor," largely because the legislation does not require every student to take Algebra II.

No one in the Legislature or in the education and business communities has ever sought to "dumb down" our education system. Instead, we have always sought expanding options for students. The Legislature directed the SBOE to adopt additional rigorous math courses as options for students to take based upon their individual goals and talents, particularly in career and technology courses. More rigorous course options will provide opportunities for all 5 million public school students and prepare students for both college and career.

Research backs this up. State and national data shows students who take a sequence of career and technology courses are far less likely to drop out of school and are more likely to go into college. Other national math experts show the importance of students learning Algebra I and Geometry in depth, and then building on that foundation with additional math courses. Algebra II is simply not necessary for every student to advance in their education.

We all have the same goals, to provide rigor and relevance for all 5 million students in our public schools. If we provide all students the opportunity for rigor and relevance in school, and give them multiple graduation pathways, we will lower the dropout rate, have the workers needed for the future, and give more students an opportunity to live the American Dream.

Donna Garner Endorses Barry Smitherman, Says Ken Paxton Never Publicly Helped Conservatives on SBOE and he Supported Moderates

Donna Garner is one of the foremost education experts in Texas. She has been fighting against liberalism in our Texas Public education since probably before I was born. Every elected official in Texas and anyone in the Texas education world knows Donna Garner. She fought for conservative State Board of Education Members when they were attacked. She fought against Common Core and CSCOPE.

Donna Garner has endorsed Barry Smitherman for Texas Attorney General. Donna Garner sent out an email yesterday explaining in detail why she supports Barry Smitherman over Ken Paxton. Basically, the summary of what Donna Garner says is that she has been intricately involved in Texas Education and not once in the past decade has Paxton testified for or promoted any of the important conservative issues facing Texas education. Even when the conservative State Board of Education members were vilified by the media for standing for conservative values, Paxton was nowhere to be found and offered no help to the conservative SBOE members who were facing challengers in their elections. in fact, Paxton admitted to Donna Garner that he was supporting a moderate to the SBOE because she had given him large campaign donations.

Donna goes on to say that Paxton did finally do something this past session by co-authoring a bill against CSCOPE, but then a recent recording surfaced of Ken Paxton stating that as Texas Attorney General he will probably not get involved in Common Core or CSCOPE.... that lackadaisical attitude towards defending Texas from Common Core is not something she wants to see from a possible future Texas AG.

WHAT ABOUT KEN PAXTON FOR TAG?

Then there is Ken Paxton.  I actually endorsed Ken for the TAG early-on when called by his campaign staffer.  At that time I knew many negatives about Dan Branch but almost nothing personal about Barry Smitherman, the Texas Railroad Commissioner.

I knew that Ken was a pro-life, pro-family-values conservative; and I had worked hard along with many other conservatives leading up to the 82^nd Legislative Session to help him to become the Speaker of the House instead of Joe Straus. Unfortunately, Ken took his name out of consideration at the very last minute, leaving us without a conservative champion to support.

I decided to endorse Ken for the TAG but in doing so I had to overlook the personal conversation in which I learned that he supported a moderate for the Texas State Board of Education simply because she had given his campaign large donations.

I also had to swallow my deep emotions over the fact that Ken along with the other Texas Legislators had passed HB 5 and HB 866 which basically gut the authentic education reform that we conservatives had fought for 15 years to establish in Texas.

As Ken came out yesterday with strong statements about what a stalwart he has been on education issues, I have done some reflecting on my own.  During the years 2005 – 2012 in which the Texas State Board of Education conservatives were fighting against all odds to adopt Type #1 curriculum standards (TEKS) for English/Language Arts/Reading, Science, Social Studies, and Math, I do not think I can remember a single time when Ken Paxton’s name was mentioned.  I cannot remember that he ever testified, wrote a public statement, came out with editorials in support of the SBOE’s efforts to put Texas on the path to authentic education reform with the 4 x 4 graduation requirements and Type #1 STAAR/EOC’s.  Nor can I remember his authoring or helping to pass legislation to try to rescue the SBOE conservatives from vilification by the media, Democrats, and the RINO’s.  In fact, so far as I can remember, Ken was nowhere around when the SBOE needed  his public  support during those very difficult years. 

It Ken was concerned enough to co-author HB 462 that supposedly banned Common Core Standards in Texas, how could he possibly have muddled his answer so badly on Nov. 18, 2013, when the question was asked him regarding Common Core Standards during the TAG campaign event?  (Please listen to either of the audio clip attachments.)  I do not think that Ken’s lackadaisical answer sounds like the type of response that the committed and impassioned people who signed his endorsement letter yesterday would have said. I believe that if any of them had been asked the same question Ken was asked about Common Core Standards, these people would have answered back with a diatribe of all that is wrong with CCSI. 

I have it on record that when Barbara Cargill was contacted by Ken’s campaign on 11.22.13 after my article had surfaced, she was driving home from an arduous four-day Texas State Board of Education meeting in Austin.  Barbara had not read my article at that time because she had been so inundated with chairing the SBOE sessions. I know that she and Ken have been friends for some time and that she had no idea what came out of his own mouth on Nov. 18, 2013, when asked about his position on Common Core Standards/CSCOPE if elected TAG. Whether that would have changed her endorsement of him, I cannot say.

BARRY SMITHERMAN FOR TAG 

In contrast to Ken’s weak answer on the Common Core/CSCOPE, how did Barry Smitherman answer questions about education issues and the positions he would take as the TAG? 

We have at least three strong indications:  (Exhibit A) Barry’s response to the article on global warming, (Exhibit B) his strong statement issued  on 11.23.13 about Texas HB 462/state sovereignty, and (Exhibit C) the letter he sent to his own daughter’s teacher regarding the Southern Poverty Law Center and its liberal-left dogma that had been inserted into his daughter’s curriculum lesson on “To Kill a Mockingbird.”

BARRY SMITHERMAN’S PERSONAL LIFE AND LEGAL BACKGROUND

Ken Paxton is a fine Christian fellow; and I applaud him and the other Legislators who fought for pro-life bills in the Legislature. However, Barry Smitherman is a strong conservative Christian also.  People who know him and his family well and who are respected conservatives themselves have testified to this.

COMPARING BARRY AND KEN

Therefore, we have to consider the skill sets that are necessary for the Texas Attorney General’s office which is very different from a state legislator’s skill sets.  Even though Ken Paxton has made a good Texas Legislator, he may not have the natural leadership skills and background expertise to be the TAG.  As someone recently stated succinctly, this is the choice we have: 

Ken Paxton – probate lawyer; estate planning; real estate; corporate transactions; 2003 to current, Texas Legislator

OR

Barry Smitherman – former Harris County prosecutor (Assistant District Attorney), service on the Public Utilities Commission (PUCT) where he also served as Chairman, heading up two large state agencies (2004 – present) plus 17 years in the private sector working in public finance, has sued the EPA 7 times to protect Texas oil and gas.

TWO MORE POINTS

The usual talking points against Barry Smitherman are (#1) he has no voting record, and (#2) he supposedly brought Smart Meters into Texas.

On point (#1), what about our Texas Hero Ted Cruz?  He had no voting record, but we all know his strength of commitment which he carried right into the Senate and The Beltway.   

On Point (#2), if voting records are so important, then what about the voting records of Ken Paxton and Dan Branch? 

As best I can document, way back on 4.13.05, Dan Branch and Ken Paxton both voted for HB 2129 (79^th Legislative Session – R). This bill set up the original legislation for Smart Meters (i.e., the deployment of advanced electricity meters…advanced metering and metering information networks) – Section 7(b)(h); Section 8(b) -- http://www.journals.house.state.tx.us/hjrnl/79r/pdf/79rday48final.pdf#page=12

Dan Branch co-authored Smart Meters legislation. Paxton actually voted twice for the implementation of Smart Meters and directed the Public Utilities Commission to allow the utilities to charge a fee for installation.  Paxton also supported a provision that required the PUC to report to the Legislature on the utilities progress in installing Smart Meters.

If both Dan Branch and Ken Paxton felt the Smart Meters were such an important issue, why did neither of them address it during the 83^rd Legislative Session?

To be honest, if the Texas Legislature had not passed the Smart Meters bills in the first place, we would not have them in our state. The PUC agency did not step outside its boundaries and make law; the PUC’s job is to implement whatever the Legislature passes. In fact, if Smitherman as chair of the PUC had “made” the Smart Meters laws, he most certainly would not have been re-appointed by the Texas Senate in 2007 and reconfirmed in 2009. That is the checks and balances process on the PUC by the TX Senate, and Ken Paxton was in the Senate when Smitherman was confirmed.

Now to be fair to all three men (Smitherman, Paxton, and Branch), back when Smart Meters were first introduced, the public did not widely know of any potential health hazards; and we did not know that Obama would be able to usurp state sovereignty and take complete control of our country. We did not have to fear the federal government as we now do under Obama. 

In fact, on June 27, 2012, Barry Smitherman shared his vision about the future of energy and electric cars [This piece was actually taped in 2009; the SwitchEnergyProject, begun in 2009, is under the Bureau of Economic Geology at the University of Texas/State of Texas and took three years to produce -- http://switchenergyproject.com/about/the-project].  Smitherman said he felt that gasoline-powered cars would prevail until at least 2050 but that people who chose to purchase electric cars could use their Smart Meters to save them money by figuring out what hours were the least expensive to charge the batteries on their cars:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wd93yV1Fg98

Last session, the Texas Legislature passed HB 462 which bans Common Core in our Texas public schools.  The U. S. Dept. of Ed. under Obama has created a work-around in which Race to the Top funds are sent directly to Texas public school districts.  RTTT-D demands that schools implement the Common Core Standards Initiative. Last year Harmony and Idea Charters received the RTTT-D1 funds, and this year Houston ISD and Pasadena ISD are in the running for the RTTT-D2 funds. This puts these schools directly in opposition to Texas law under HB 462. 

Barry Smitherman has issued a strong commitment to uphold Texas laws, including HB 462:

As you consider funding opportunities, especially those offered by the United States Department of Education, I want to remind you of the provisions in a new law prohibiting the adoption or use of the Common Core State Standards.

The 83rd Texas Legislature passed House Bill 462 (HB 462), which contains several important prohibitions relating to curriculum standards. The bill:

1.     prohibits the State Board of Education (SBOE) from adopting Common Core State Standards;

2.     prohibits school districts from using Common Core State Standards to meet the requirements to provide instruction in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS);

3.     prohibits a school district or open enrollment charter school from being required to offer the Common Core; and

4.     prohibits the Texas Education Agency from adopting or developing assessments based on Common Core State Standards.

Lumberton ISD Principal's Prayer Prompts Threats from Freedom from Religion Foundation

Lumberton ISD is once again in the news. This time it is over a prayer that a Lumberton principal (more on what happened at the Lumberton graduation below)
did at a Kindergarten graduation. The principal, Kevin Wing, is one of the best principals running one of the best schools in Lumberton. Wing asked the parents if they mind if he said a prayer for the safety of the kids over the summer. That was it. Fortunately, this Christian prayer incident is not likely to cause any anger in Lumberton, TX. In fact, he will probably get an thank you from many parents who would like to see more prayers in school to combat the moral decline that we have seen over the years in America. He certainly should not get in trouble. If a teacher can walk around the school with a Vote Obama shirt on and not get into trouble, and if a different teacher can ask students to wear Muslim Burqas and not get into trouble, then it would be discriminatory to punish this principal for a simple school prayer. I didn't even call for the teacher involved in the Burqa incident to get disciplined, I just thought the lesson was a bad idea and should not be allowed. Teaching about religions and other cultures is ok, but having them wear a religious garment goes too far, especially since it was not taught that women could be killed in Muslim countries if they do not wear the Burqas. With that being said, this principal who said a prayer should not get into ANY trouble.

It is interesting that the Freedom from Religion Foundation had no problem with students wearing Muslim Burqas at Lumberton Texas Schools but they have a problem with a prayer at a graduation.... obvious hypocritical double standard!

Prayer in School is NOT ILLEGAL

Contrary to what Liberals, Atheists and the Freedom from Religion Foundation says, prayer in school is not illegal. Every once in a while these groups will sue and try to take "Under God" out of the Pledge or prayer out of the public arena because they somehow think having to hear the words Under God forces them be believe in God. They cry out about government not being able to establish a national religion but they forget about government also not being able to prohibit the free exercise thereof. I do understand things are a little different at schools because staff have a position of authority over kids who are learning. Because of this, school staff generally should not get involved in leading prayer or religious activities at school. It is not illegal but it might get the school involved in a lawsuit if a parent wants to sue to stop prayers from happening. That being said, STUDENTS CAN PRAY in schools and at school public events. Principal Wing did not pray in a classroom setting. He was not with the kids by themselves in a learning environment. He was with the parents and did not try to push any religion. He only asked for protection for the kids. No big deal, just don't do it again, nothing to see here, move along. Do not give in to the Atheists though, Principal Wing should still have the prayer, but NEXT TIME JUST LET ONE OF THE KIDS PRAY. Liberals and Atheists get mad when school staff pray but they can't do anything about a kid praying at the graduation.

The Prayer at the Lumberton Kindergarten Graduation - Hardin County District Clerk was witness - The Letter from FFRF

In east Texas, prayer at just about every public meeting, sporting event, and graduation is the norm There is nothing illegal about it. Prayer has been a pillar of just about every public event and even government meetings since the founding of the United States of America. We even get our rights in America from our "Creator."

Here is what happened in Lumberton according to the Hardin County District Clerk, Pam Hartt, who was at the graduation and saw what happened:

"Yes I was there for my son.....he said if y'all don't mind I want to say a little prayer for these children...the we all bowed and he said a simple prayer like..protect the children this summer, be with them through their educational journey and for parents and teachers as we bring them up....very short and sweet and then we all said pledge which of course says one nation under God"

Not long after the graduation, LISD received a letter from the Freedom from Religion Foundation threatening the school over the prayer. They said they got a complaint from an anonymous parent, but it is more likely that there was no complaining parent and the organization just heard about the prayer and decided to attack. This organization sends letter like this all the time and they typically get shot down. Freedom from Religion Foundation just lost in court right down the road from Lumberton in Kountze, TX when they tried to not allow students to put Bible verses on signs that the students make. They do not care about the Constitution, they only care about destroying Christianity the Constitutional right of religious expression.

Bottom line, there is nothing illegal about what happened at the Lumberton Kindergarten graduation. The principal should not get into trouble. It was a one time event and from now on the principal should just make sure it is a student praying instead of the principal so that thee liberal nuts do not come after the school.

Lumberton Muslim Burqa Incident and CSCOPE

Recently, the Lumberton ISD was in the news because of a lesson that involved students wearing Muslim Burqas. This lesson did not sit well with parents in the school district. The Burqa incident even led to national scrutiny of other, unrelated curriculum lessons being taught all across Texas called CSCOPE. The CSCOPE curriculum contained everything from anti-American lessons to seemingly pro-communist and pro Islam lessons. Needless to say, CSCOPE did not stand a chance after outraged Texans and even the Legislature came after it. CSCOPE eventually pulled all of the lessons, but there is belief that the lessons will still be pushed into Texas schools via other online programs that are not transparent.

Governor Perry Vetoes HB 2824, would've allowed Texas schools to use CSCOPE and Obama Common Core Standards

Statement from Governor Rick Perry regarding the veto of this bill:

Education is changing, and Texas must remain at the forefront of innovation as the digital age evolves. That is why I signed legislation during the 82nd regular session to create the Texas High Performance Schools Consortium. The 23 participating districts are responsible for informing policymakers about methods to improve student learning through digital learning strategies and improved standards and assessments, while relying more on local control of the educational process.

House Bill 2824 would exempt consortium districts, which have shown a range of performance levels on the most recent STAAR assessments, from the Texas accountability system and many of the assessments required of other public schools throughout the state. Flexibility and innovation are important, but we will not compromise academic rigor or student outcomes.

The Texas Commissioner of Education, guided by input from stakeholders and changes in statute by House Bill 5, is developing a new accountability system that will allow districts to innovate without sacrificing important accountability.

The following is why HB 2824 was bad and needed to be vetoed (from Bob Hall Posted at Red Hot Conservative):

HB 2824 - Lets a consortium of so-called “high performing” (mostly mediocre) school districts off the hook in terms of testing and accountability, thus freeing them up to do teaching and learning to whatever goals (E.G. CSCOPE, I-CLOUD or Obama’s Common Core Standards) and standards they choose.

 

Texas CSCOPE Liberal Curriculum is DEAD! - Not so Fast, SB 1406 MUST STILL PASS

update:  SB 1406 JUST PASSED the Texas House!

The TESCCC Board has announced that they will be ENDING all CSCOPE lessons.

CSCOPE is dead, but as a way to prevent it from coming back with no SBOE oversight, SB 1406 MUST STILL pass the Texas House

We must NOT let our guard down and the Texas Legislature needs to continue to take action to prevent bad curriculum and online backdoor curriculum from being introduced into Texas schools with no oversight. SB 1406 MUST pass the Texas House. Just because TESCCC is pulling CSCOPE does not mean they cannot try to start it back up in the future. SB 1406 will help prevent this and must pass even though CSCOPE has been pulled. Ginger Russell reports on her website Red Hot Conservative that an email has been sent to Superintendents saying that CSCOPE will not be completely gone.

CSCOPE was a controversial curriculum in Texas. There was widespread outrage over the past year because of the outrageous Liberal, anti-American lessons. What made things worse is that this curriculum was created WITHOUT the oversight of the State Board of Education as required by law for all Texas Curriculum. On top of that there were financial inconsitincies and coverups.

After CSCOPE was exposed, school district all across Texas started dropping CSCOPE from being used in their school districts. My hometown of Lumberton, TX was even in the committee process of ditching CSCOPE and researching what will replace it for Lumberton ISD.

It is believed that TESCCC was facing investigations into the financing of CSCOPE and that is what finally compelled them to finally pull all CSCOPE lessons before they could be investigated further.

SENATOR PATRICK ANNOUNCES THE END OF CSCOPE
In sudden turn of events the TESCCC Board decides to end CSCOPE lesson plans.

AUSTIN-- A letter signed by all 20 members of the Board released this morning stated they will notify their 875 school district clients that all lesson plans will be removed from their website on August 31st, 2013 and that districts cannot use any lessons they currently have beyond that date. TheAugust 31st date corresponds to the notice clause in their contracts with their districts. The letter goes on to say that the Regional Service Centers will not produce lesson plans in the future. The 20 Service Centers will return to their original business plan of providing a management tool for teachers to stay on schedule regarding the teaching of the required TEKS. The official vote will take place at an already scheduled Board meeting on Friday, May 24th.

"I'm pleased that the CSCOPE Board has made the decision to get out of the lesson plan business. This is a positive development for students, parents, teachers, and for the Regional Service Centers,' said Senator Patrick. "I want to thank the members of the Senate Education Committee for their months of work on this issue. I also want to thank Attorney General Abbott and his staff in providing valuable assistance in our review of CSCOPE," added Patrick.

"We would like to thank Senator Patrick, Senator Duncan, and members of the Senate and House Education Committees. Their leadership has been invaluable and we look forward to a positive relationship in the future. We believe that this is the best decision moving forward; and allows us to continue to provide high quality services to the more than 1,000, school districts and charter schools in Texas, said Kyle Wargo, Board Member Region 17 Board of Directors and Anne Poplin, Chair, TESCCC.

"We accept the concerns expressed by the leadership of our state regarding segments of the lessons that were perceived as contradictory to the values of our great state. We will therefore eliminate the model lessons offered as examples of what was interpreted as the intent of the standards and focus on moving forward in a positive manner," said Mary Ann Whiteker, Superintendent, Hudson ISD.

"Once the TESCCC officially approves this measure Friday I will notify the SBOE that they do not need to review the 1600 CSCOPE lesson plans," said Patrick. "The CSCOPE era is over. However, what the last several months has proven is that the state will have to create a plan to monitor all on line material in the future so that our schools and classroom remain completely transparent to parents and the legislature knows what is being taught in our classrooms across Texas," added Patrick.

Texas Student Tells Teacher to Teach and Not Just Pass Out Packets - Problem with CSCOPE

A video of a Duncanville ISD High School Student questions his teacher has gone viral. The student basically tells the teacher the kids would learn if the teacher actually taught instead of just passing out packets.

I do not know if this was CSCOPE material at Duncanville ISD, but I do know that a major problem with CSCOPE curriculum in Texas is that the teachers are not allowed to teach. They are forced to just pass out or do powerpoint lessons from CSCOPE's website. CSCOPE takes away teaching from the teachers and kids just get CSCOPE "packets" to do.

UPDATE: No discipline for Duncanville High School student in viral video, but teacher placed on leave

Update, 3:56 p.m.: Our Jeff Weiss reports on the education blog that the teacher heard in the video has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation of what led up to the outburst. The school district will not identify the teacher.

“The principal and student visited this morning,” according to a statement from the district, “and no further action will be taken regarding the student.”

After being kicked out of class by his world history teacher, Duncanville High School sophomore Jeff Bliss ranted to her in front of his class about everything she was doing wrong.
In the 84-second video, he talks over the teacher, lecturing her about her classroom teaching style. “If you would just get up and teach us instead of handing ‘em a packet yo,” Bliss said in the video. He is an 18-year-old sophomore who dropped out of school and then returned, according to WFAA-TV (Channel 8). “There’s kids in here that don’t learn like that… they need to learn face-to-face,”You want kids to come to class? You want them to get excited? You gotta come in here, you gotta make ‘em excited, to change him and make him better, you gotta touch his freakin’ heart.”
Bliss told Channel 8 that he doesn’t regret his rant and that “somebody needed to say this.”
In the video he goes on to tell his teacher that he has “done nothing but read packets” and she has to “take this job seriously. This is the future of this nation.”
As of right now, it is unclear whether Bliss will face any disciplinary action but the school principal asked to meet with him, the student told Channel 8. Duncanville ISD officials have also been made aware of the video that a student in the class recorded on a cell phone. Bliss said he was not aware he was being recorded.
“As a district with a motto of Engaging Hearts and Minds we focus on building positive relationships with students and designing engaging work that is meaningful,” the district said in a statement. “We want our students and teachers to be engaged, but the method by which the student expressed his concern could have been handled in a more appropriate way. We are and will continue to be open to listening to students.”

AUSTIN - Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott sent the following letter to the Texas Education Service Center Curriculum Collaborative (TESCCC) regarding allegations that Texas parents are being denied access to CSCOPE curriculum and materials.

Dear Ms. Poplin:

It has come to our attention that school districts may be denying Texas parents access to CSCOPE curriculum and materials in violation of the Texas Education Code. Specifically, it has been alleged that school districts are improperly attempting to charge parents hundreds of dollars in order to access CSCOPE-related information that must be provided to them under Texas law.

As you know, Section 26.006(a) of the Texas Education Code provides that parents are “entitled to review all teaching materials, instructional materials, and other teaching aids used in the classroom of the parent’s child.” The Education Code also provides that school districts “shall make teaching materials and tests readily available for review by parents.” Further, Texas law specifically states that “A student’s parent is entitled to request that the school district…allow the student to take home any instructional materials used by the student.”

Notwithstanding the fact that Texas law clearly requires school districts to make educational materials accessible to parents, it is our understanding that school districts have recently attempted to charge hundreds of dollars for information related to the CSCOPE curriculum. To the extent parents are being charged a fee in order to access CSCOPE-related information, such a fee is not authorized by the Education Code.

In light of these concerns, we request that the TESCCC promptly notify school districts that information related to CSCOPE must be provided to parents in accordance with Chapter 26 of the Texas Education Code, which does not authorize the imposition of a fee. With summer fast approaching, it is imperative that the TESCCC distribute the notification requested herein immediately so that parents are assured access to CSCOPE-related information before the end of the school year. Finally, be advised that failure to comply with the Education Code’s disclosure requirements could result in legal action against school districts.

As you can see in the video, CSCOPE Director Says, "The Whole Thing is Designed to Show that the Communist Government is Oppressive."

The Problem is NOTHING HE SAID IS TRUE.

See the Paper in the CSCOPE Director's hand in the video? That is the Chinese Communist Flag Lesson. I got a copy of that lesson to see if what Danny Lovett was saying was true.

The Truth is, what the LESSON says completely CONTRADICTS what the CSCOPE DIRECOR says.


The Chinese Flag Communist Lesson

As you can see, the Chinese Flag Lesson says NOTHING about Communism being over and OPPRESSING the people. In fact, the lesson says the Chinese People are UNITED by and around the Communist Government.

The Soviet Flag

The Lesson says nothing about Soviet Communism OPPRESSING the people. In fact, the Lesson says that the Communist Star in the Flag Symbolizes its role in UNIFYING the people in the Socialist Society.

United States Flag

He even lied about this!

Danny Lovett says that the lesson teaches that the stars on the U.S. flag are all equal to show that the people are all equal. Well, the U.S. Flag says nothing about the size of the stars and what they mean.

This CSCOPE Director LIED.

He Told Lumberton Parents GREAT things about the lesson like how the lesson explains to kids that Communist Govenments OPPRESS people but the American Government treats everyone equal.

The LESSON teaches something completely opposite of what he told parents. The LESSON teaches that Communism UNITES people, not oppresses them and it says NOTHING about people being equal in America.

The TRUTH is, any Kid Reading the Lesson will believe that Communism UNITES the people, NOT OPPRESSES THEM.

Kids then DREW COMMUNIST FLAG

Finally, at the end of the video, You Heard Right, the Kids were asked to draw their own Communist flag, based on what they learned from the LESSON.

The Problem is, Contrary to what Danny Lovett said, the LESSON teaches that Communism UNITES people.

I can only imagine what Communist flags the kids drew. Maybe they drew people holding hands around the Communist Government that "Unites" them. That is what the lesson teaches.

CSCOPE DIRECTOR LIED!

Communist Lesson did NOT teach that Communism was Oppressive. Students should NOT have drawn a Communist flag. We should make sure they understand AMERICAN values before false Communist values.

If this CSCOPE Director BLATANTLY LIED about this Communist Lesson, what else will they lie about?
