Texas Transvestite Teacher Confuses 5th Grade Students at Lumberton ISD – Suspended after Outrage

The small, predominantly Christian community of Lumberton, TX is once again about to hit the national scene. The Lumberton Independent School has suspended a transvestite teacher. There will be a School Board meeting this Thursday night at 7pm where it is expected there will be a large number of outspoken people from both sides who show up to speak during the public comment time. State Board of Education member David Bradly had this to say regarding the upcoming school board decision, “He does not have to be fired as substitutes are not under contract. The district just fails to call him for the next days work.” Furthermore, men who want to dress up as women are not a protected class under the Constitution or state law and therefore the teacher can be fired. Especially in schools, there is broad authority to make decisions based on what the people of the community wants and believes is in the best interest of the vulnerable students of the school district. I suspect the man will try to sue and we will have a trial with national implications.

If the board goes into executive session to privately discuss personnel, some believe that the School Board will also discuss who hired him in the first place and thought it was ok for him to wear a dress in front of 10 year olds who were so distracted that they could not take their tests. Superintendent John Valastro has taken heat in recent years due to high profile issues. In this case, Valastro is not over picking substitute teachers, but he did suspend the teacher following the recent complaints. I have written several articles regarding Lumberton ISD issues, from vulgar school plays with cursing, to CSCOPE, to students wearing Muslim Burqas, to liberal teachers wearing vote Obama shirts and telling students not to watch Fox News. John Griffing’s WND story on the Burqa issue led to national attention and even helped push out CSCOPE curriculum on a statewide level (although it is still around).

Lumberton is a great community and has a great educational environment compared to other public schools. I live here and I personally hate to see the school getting so much negative attention because it is not a reflection of the majority of the teachers and administration. Unfortunately, in order to fix problems and make sure they do not happen again, you have to expose the problems. It is a dirty job but someone has to do it.

I first heard about the issue when my youngest brother came home and told me about the kids talking about a male substitute teacher that was in a different class. This teacher was signing his name as Mrs. I thought that was strange, but I did not realize the extent of what was going on until I heard Chip Darby talking about the issue on freedom 1300. Apparently there was a male teacher wearing a dress and makeup at the Lumberton Intermediate School.

The teacher’s name is Laura Jane Klug (born Kurt Klug). I looked him up on Facebook and what I found was an emotionally disturbed and confused older man. He has not always wanted to be a woman. According to a note he posted on his Facebook page on July 7th, 2011 titled “How Much More Can I Take?” Kurt Klug was emotionally distraught and seemingly ready to give in with his life because of the pain of his female wife leaving him. The pain and distraught of his wife leaving him must have driven him to decide that he wanted to become a woman. From 2011 until now, Kurt changed his name to Laura Jane Klug and started dressing up like a woman and acting like a woman. He has joined many lesbian, gay and transgender pages on Facebook. Oh, and he also likes Texas Politician Dan Branch’s page.

Let me get one thing straight, I do not hate this man, nor am I angry at him. I feel bad for him. He was so hurt and emotionally distraught that he was driven to wanting a radical change. He seems like he was and maybe still is a Christian, but he is certainly hurting and has lost his way. We all have issues and this is his issue.

That being said, a school house with young, impressionable, easily distracted and easily confused children is not the place for this man to be. The school has very strict dress codes and boys cannot even have long hair. The environment is controlled to minimize distractions so that the students can learn. Like it or not, a transvestite is a distraction. Not only that, he frightened and confused many students who then went home to their parents who had to have age inappropriate conversations with their children.

Roger Beard, whose son was in the class Klug was subbing, is an outspoken parent who talked to the local Channel 12 News about this issue. He said what concerns him is the distraction he believes a transgender teacher poses to ten and eleven year old children.

"If it does affect my child and his ability to learn or if it causes questions that I don't feel are appropriate then undoubtedly there's an issue with having somebody transgender, transsexual or transvestite, to be teaching that age group," Beard said.

Sheli Jones Wells also had a child in the class and she posted this comment on Facebook about the situation, “I did have to explain to my daughter what transgender was last Thursday afternoon because it was her home room class he was in. I was none to happy to venture down that road with my 11 year old. Judge? No. But do I have reservations about WHY this person wants to be in our schools for $60 a day, you better believe it.”

I wanted to hear what others in Lumberton had to say, that is when I took to Facebook to see what I could find out from friends who work at or have students at the Intermediate School.

The response I got was overwhelming.

Below are screenshots of what I posted on Facebook, and some of the responses that I got:

Lumberton ISD Principal's Prayer Prompts Threats from Freedom from Religion Foundation

Lumberton ISD is once again in the news. This time it is over a prayer that a Lumberton principal (more on what happened at the Lumberton graduation below)
did at a Kindergarten graduation. The principal, Kevin Wing, is one of the best principals running one of the best schools in Lumberton. Wing asked the parents if they mind if he said a prayer for the safety of the kids over the summer. That was it. Fortunately, this Christian prayer incident is not likely to cause any anger in Lumberton, TX. In fact, he will probably get an thank you from many parents who would like to see more prayers in school to combat the moral decline that we have seen over the years in America. He certainly should not get in trouble. If a teacher can walk around the school with a Vote Obama shirt on and not get into trouble, and if a different teacher can ask students to wear Muslim Burqas and not get into trouble, then it would be discriminatory to punish this principal for a simple school prayer. I didn't even call for the teacher involved in the Burqa incident to get disciplined, I just thought the lesson was a bad idea and should not be allowed. Teaching about religions and other cultures is ok, but having them wear a religious garment goes too far, especially since it was not taught that women could be killed in Muslim countries if they do not wear the Burqas. With that being said, this principal who said a prayer should not get into ANY trouble.

It is interesting that the Freedom from Religion Foundation had no problem with students wearing Muslim Burqas at Lumberton Texas Schools but they have a problem with a prayer at a graduation.... obvious hypocritical double standard!

Prayer in School is NOT ILLEGAL

Contrary to what Liberals, Atheists and the Freedom from Religion Foundation says, prayer in school is not illegal. Every once in a while these groups will sue and try to take "Under God" out of the Pledge or prayer out of the public arena because they somehow think having to hear the words Under God forces them be believe in God. They cry out about government not being able to establish a national religion but they forget about government also not being able to prohibit the free exercise thereof. I do understand things are a little different at schools because staff have a position of authority over kids who are learning. Because of this, school staff generally should not get involved in leading prayer or religious activities at school. It is not illegal but it might get the school involved in a lawsuit if a parent wants to sue to stop prayers from happening. That being said, STUDENTS CAN PRAY in schools and at school public events. Principal Wing did not pray in a classroom setting. He was not with the kids by themselves in a learning environment. He was with the parents and did not try to push any religion. He only asked for protection for the kids. No big deal, just don't do it again, nothing to see here, move along. Do not give in to the Atheists though, Principal Wing should still have the prayer, but NEXT TIME JUST LET ONE OF THE KIDS PRAY. Liberals and Atheists get mad when school staff pray but they can't do anything about a kid praying at the graduation.

The Prayer at the Lumberton Kindergarten Graduation - Hardin County District Clerk was witness - The Letter from FFRF

In east Texas, prayer at just about every public meeting, sporting event, and graduation is the norm There is nothing illegal about it. Prayer has been a pillar of just about every public event and even government meetings since the founding of the United States of America. We even get our rights in America from our "Creator."

Here is what happened in Lumberton according to the Hardin County District Clerk, Pam Hartt, who was at the graduation and saw what happened:

"Yes I was there for my son.....he said if y'all don't mind I want to say a little prayer for these children...the we all bowed and he said a simple prayer like..protect the children this summer, be with them through their educational journey and for parents and teachers as we bring them up....very short and sweet and then we all said pledge which of course says one nation under God"

Not long after the graduation, LISD received a letter from the Freedom from Religion Foundation threatening the school over the prayer. They said they got a complaint from an anonymous parent, but it is more likely that there was no complaining parent and the organization just heard about the prayer and decided to attack. This organization sends letter like this all the time and they typically get shot down. Freedom from Religion Foundation just lost in court right down the road from Lumberton in Kountze, TX when they tried to not allow students to put Bible verses on signs that the students make. They do not care about the Constitution, they only care about destroying Christianity the Constitutional right of religious expression.

Bottom line, there is nothing illegal about what happened at the Lumberton Kindergarten graduation. The principal should not get into trouble. It was a one time event and from now on the principal should just make sure it is a student praying instead of the principal so that thee liberal nuts do not come after the school.

Thanks Principal Wing! The residents of Lumberton, TX support you!

Lumberton Muslim Burqa Incident and CSCOPE

Recently, the Lumberton ISD was in the news because of a lesson that involved students wearing Muslim Burqas. This lesson did not sit well with parents in the school district. The Burqa incident even led to national scrutiny of other, unrelated curriculum lessons being taught all across Texas called CSCOPE. The CSCOPE curriculum contained everything from anti-American lessons to seemingly pro-communist and pro Islam lessons. Needless to say, CSCOPE did not stand a chance after outraged Texans and even the Legislature came after it. CSCOPE eventually pulled all of the lessons, but there is belief that the lessons will still be pushed into Texas schools via other online programs that are not transparent.

Sincerely,
David Bellow
Lumberton Resident

Texas CSCOPE Liberal Curriculum is DEAD! - Not so Fast, SB 1406 MUST STILL PASS

update:  SB 1406 JUST PASSED the Texas House!

The TESCCC Board has announced that they will be ENDING all CSCOPE lessons.

CSCOPE is dead, but as a way to prevent it from coming back with no SBOE oversight, SB 1406 MUST STILL pass the Texas House

We must NOT let our guard down and the Texas Legislature needs to continue to take action to prevent bad curriculum and online backdoor curriculum from being introduced into Texas schools with no oversight. SB 1406 MUST pass the Texas House. Just because TESCCC is pulling CSCOPE does not mean they cannot try to start it back up in the future. SB 1406 will help prevent this and must pass even though CSCOPE has been pulled. Ginger Russell reports on her website Red Hot Conservative that an email has been sent to Superintendents saying that CSCOPE will not be completely gone.

State Senator Dan Patrick announced this news earlier this morning (See Dan Patrick Press Release below)

CSCOPE was a controversial curriculum in Texas. There was widespread outrage over the past year because of the outrageous Liberal, anti-American lessons. What made things worse is that this curriculum was created WITHOUT the oversight of the State Board of Education as required by law for all Texas Curriculum. On top of that there were financial inconsitincies and coverups.

After CSCOPE was exposed, school district all across Texas started dropping CSCOPE from being used in their school districts. My hometown of Lumberton, TX was even in the committee process of ditching CSCOPE and researching what will replace it for Lumberton ISD.

It is believed that TESCCC was facing investigations into the financing of CSCOPE and that is what finally compelled them to finally pull all CSCOPE lessons before they could be investigated further.

Press Release from State Senator Dan Patrick:

SENATOR PATRICK ANNOUNCES THE END OF CSCOPE
In sudden turn of events the TESCCC Board decides to end CSCOPE lesson plans.

AUSTIN-- A letter signed by all 20 members of the Board released this morning stated they will notify their 875 school district clients that all lesson plans will be removed from their website on August 31st, 2013 and that districts cannot use any lessons they currently have beyond that date. TheAugust 31st date corresponds to the notice clause in their contracts with their districts. The letter goes on to say that the Regional Service Centers will not produce lesson plans in the future. The 20 Service Centers will return to their original business plan of providing a management tool for teachers to stay on schedule regarding the teaching of the required TEKS. The official vote will take place at an already scheduled Board meeting on Friday, May 24th.

"I'm pleased that the CSCOPE Board has made the decision to get out of the lesson plan business. This is a positive development for students, parents, teachers, and for the Regional Service Centers,' said Senator Patrick. "I want to thank the members of the Senate Education Committee for their months of work on this issue. I also want to thank Attorney General Abbott and his staff in providing valuable assistance in our review of CSCOPE," added Patrick.

"We would like to thank Senator Patrick, Senator Duncan, and members of the Senate and House Education Committees. Their leadership has been invaluable and we look forward to a positive relationship in the future. We believe that this is the best decision moving forward; and allows us to continue to provide high quality services to the more than 1,000, school districts and charter schools in Texas, said Kyle Wargo, Board Member Region 17 Board of Directors and Anne Poplin, Chair, TESCCC.

"We accept the concerns expressed by the leadership of our state regarding segments of the lessons that were perceived as contradictory to the values of our great state. We will therefore eliminate the model lessons offered as examples of what was interpreted as the intent of the standards and focus on moving forward in a positive manner," said Mary Ann Whiteker, Superintendent, Hudson ISD.

"Once the TESCCC officially approves this measure Friday I will notify the SBOE that they do not need to review the 1600 CSCOPE lesson plans," said Patrick. "The CSCOPE era is over. However, what the last several months has proven is that the state will have to create a plan to monitor all on line material in the future so that our schools and classroom remain completely transparent to parents and the legislature knows what is being taught in our classrooms across Texas," added Patrick.

CSCOPE Director Caught LYING about Communist Chinese Flag Lesson (VIDEO) - Lumberton ISD - David Bellow Investigation

Investigative Report by David Bellow

Caught on VIDEO:

CSCOPE Director Danny Lovett Caught Lying about Chinese/Soviet Communist Flag Lesson while speaking to parents at Lumberton ISD "Truth about CSCOPE" Presentation.

Director says CSCOPE Lesson teaches kids in Texas Schools that Communism OPPRESSES, but truth is the Lesson teaches the Communism UNITES. Proof shows that this CSCOPE Curriculum shows Communism positively, not negatively.

Video of CSCOPE Director Caught Lying:

If the video above did not play, click here to watch video at YouTube: http://youtu.be/FWNU1_vcPII

After a few minutes of heated discussion and dodging questions, Danny Lovett goes on to defend the "Communist Flag Lesson" by blatantly lying about what was in the Communist Flag Lesson.

As you can see in the video, CSCOPE Director Says, "The Whole Thing is Designed to Show that the Communist Government is Oppressive."

Sounds Good Right?

The Problem is NOTHING HE SAID IS TRUE.

See the Paper in the CSCOPE Director's hand in the video? That is the Chinese Communist Flag Lesson. I got a copy of that lesson to see if what Danny Lovett was saying was true.

The Truth is, what the LESSON says completely CONTRADICTS what the CSCOPE DIRECOR says.

The Chinese Flag Communist Lesson

As you can see, the Chinese Flag Lesson says NOTHING about Communism being over and OPPRESSING the people. In fact, the lesson says the Chinese People are UNITED by and around the Communist Government.

The Soviet Flag

The Lesson says nothing about Soviet Communism OPPRESSING the people. In fact, the Lesson says that the Communist Star in the Flag Symbolizes its role in UNIFYING the people in the Socialist Society.

United States Flag

He even lied about this!

Danny Lovett says that the lesson teaches that the stars on the U.S. flag are all equal to show that the people are all equal. Well, the U.S. Flag says nothing about the size of the stars and what they mean.

Conclusion:

This CSCOPE Director LIED.

He Told Lumberton Parents GREAT things about the lesson like how the lesson explains to kids that Communist Govenments OPPRESS people but the American Government treats everyone equal.

The LESSON teaches something completely opposite of what he told parents. The LESSON teaches that Communism UNITES people, not oppresses them and it says NOTHING about people being equal in America.

The TRUTH is, any Kid Reading the Lesson will believe that Communism UNITES the people, NOT OPPRESSES THEM.

Kids then DREW COMMUNIST FLAG

Finally, at the end of the video, You Heard Right, the Kids were asked to draw their own Communist flag, based on what they learned from the LESSON.

The Problem is, Contrary to what Danny Lovett said, the LESSON teaches that Communism UNITES people.

I can only imagine what Communist flags the kids drew. Maybe they drew people holding hands around the Communist Government that "Unites" them. That is what the lesson teaches.

CSCOPE DIRECTOR LIED!

Communist Lesson did NOT teach that Communism was Oppressive. Students should NOT have drawn a Communist flag. We should make sure they understand AMERICAN values before false Communist values.

If this CSCOPE Director BLATANTLY LIED about this Communist Lesson, what else will they lie about?

(Video) CSCOPE Director: "I Would Have Killed For CSCOPE" - Lumberton ISD - Danny Lovett

Video at bottom of this article

Region 5 Executive Director, and one of the heads of CSCOPE, Danny Lovett says, "I would have killed for CSCOPE." Did he go too far with this statement? I mean, I know he likes CSCOPE, and it probably helps him keep a good paying job if he keeps his CSCOPE program from collapsing. But seriously, he loves it so much that he would KILL for it?

This video is from when Dr. Danny Lovett came to Lumberton ISD a couple of weeks ago. Many parents at Lumberton ISD are upset that the CSCOPE Curriculum is being used in Lumberton schools. Lovett's purpose for coming to Lumberton ISD was to try to promote CSCOPE as something awesome so that all the parents would just be happy about it I guess. This angered many parents who were expecting a public forum where parents could express concerns. Instead of a public forum, these parents show up to find out that there would be no official school public forum and instead there was an information presentation from Lovett intended to promote CSCOPE. Before the presentation could even be started, some parents stood up and made it known that they were not happy and wanted to ask question and not just be presented a puff piece by one of the leaders in CSCOPE.

I am glad that Lumberton ISD Administration did do a good job of allowing parents to ask questions at this informational meeting. It was just frustrating because the parents were having to continually interrupt the meeting to correct something or inquire about the something that the CSCOPE Director was presenting.

To his credit though, he did allow the parents to interject their comments during his CSCOPE promotional. He didn't answer my question though about how much money he made. You see, he had tried to downplay the fact that CSCOPE double dips with tax dollars when they use tax money to create it and then sell it to schools who pay for it with tax dollars. His excuse for it not being an issue is that CSCOPE is created under a non profit organization and therefore they cannot make a profit with it so we should not worry about what CSCOPE is charging because, hey, they cannot make money from it. I stood up and pointed out that, although their organization cannot technically make a profit, they can still certainly gain financially from CSCOPE. I pointed out the different directors of "non profit" organizations who make millions a year in base salary. I then asked him how much he made. He would not give me a number, although he was adamant earlier in the evening about his organization being completely open about finances. My question was not intended to bash him or say that he should not be compensated for his job. My point was that, even as a non profit, they certainly stand to gain financially if CSCOPE does well via salaries and new hires and more power as the "non profit" grows and does well.

It was also interesting that, on top of promoting CSCOPE, Danny Lovett also tried to associate anyone who was against CSCOPE with terroristic threat emails. I don't know the validity of whether or not CSCOPE administrators have received any valid threatening emails or if they were just upset individuals venting about the seemingly un-American lessons in CSCOPE. I do not condone that and neither do ANY of the people who are pushing for the removal of CSCOPE from Texas Schools. We who are against CSCOPE have valid reasons to show why CSCOPE is flawed and needs to be removed. We don't threaten. Yet, here was Danny Lovett standing in front of us telling us how hateful and threatening the people against CSCOPE are. It seemed to me as though he was trying to discredit anyone who might speak out against CSCOPE at the information meeting by grouping people who speak out with valid concerns into the same pot with some random hateful people who may or may not have sent threatening emails to them.

It was interesting though that he would talk about violent comments people might have made to him but yet he has not problem spouting out violent comments without thinking, like how he would have killed for CSCOPE.

That is it for this article. I will be posting another video soon from this meeting showing that Danny Lovett straight up lied to the Lumberton ISD parents concerning a particularly troubling CSCOPE lesson. I got it all on video of course!

Texas Teacher Wears "Vote Obama" Shirt at Lumberton ISD - Vulgar, Anti-Christian/GOP/Fox News Pics on Twitter - Uses CSCOPE

This woman is not the teacher, this is one of the
pictures posted on the teacher's Twitter page
During the November 2012 election, several students claim that Lumberton High School teacher Michelle Champagne paraded around the high school wearing a shirt with a picture of Barack Obama and "Vote Obama" written above the picture. This Texas teacher also has vulgar, anti-Christian, anti-Republican, anti-Fox News, anti-Rick Perry messages and pictures posted openly on her Twitter page and says her fellow Lumberton residents “cling to guns and Bibles.” One tweet on her Twitter Page even refers to a Christian Cross as a Swastika! It is no surprise that this teacher also says she relies heavily on the flawed CSCOPE curriculum!

The recent Lumberton ISD Muslim Burqa Lesson and CSCOPE curriculum controversy has apparently encouraged other students and parents to speak out about things that have happened in Lumberton schools. Over the past month I have been contacted about all kinds of incidents, including this one. Parents in other cities are also standing up and speaking out. Just today I saw that a parent in Flour Bluff, TX exposed a CSCOPE approved supplement lesson that blamed the 9/11 terrorist attack on America.

I 100% believe that the Lumberton School Board and Lumberton Administration are NOT trying to push liberalism on any children. I also believe that most of the teachers in Lumberton are awesome! I do believe however that there ARE some liberal teachers who DO try to influence students with liberal ideas, even here in predominantly conservative East Texas. I also believe that, even if not intentional on the part of the school, the CSCOPE curriculum does try to negatively influence students. Thankfully, LISD has created a committee to look into replacing CSCOPE.

Lumberton Teacher Wears “Vote Obama” Shirt to School

Last week I got a call from a student who said that, during the November 2012 election, Lumberton High School teacher Michelle Champagne paraded around the high school wearing a shirt with a picture of Barack Obama and "Vote Obama" written above the picture. This allegation was backed up by other students who saw her wearing the shirt. Even after at least one student and the student's parents complained to the school about this shirt, the teacher still wore the shirt to Lumberton High School, according to the complaining student and parent. It is not known what action, if any, was taken against the teacher for wearing the shirt.

The Burqa incident might have been as an honest mistake not meant to push anything onto the students, but there is nothing innocent about a teacher wearing a shirt to the high school that says "Vote Obama." This shirt in my opinion, is clearly an attempt of an authority figure to push a liberal person and ideas onto impressionable students at Lumberton High School. A teacher with a shirt with "vote" written on it would be fine at a school to encourage students to get involved. I would even be fine with a shirt that just had a picture of Obama on it. But a teacher wearing a shirt that has the words "Vote Obama" is clearly crossing the line. Students wearing religious or political shirts are ok because it is student led. A teacher is in a position of authority over impressionable students who are there to learn from the teacher, so teachers are NOT allowed to wear these kinds of things.

It is interesting to note that on Michelle Champagne's LISD Teacher Webpage, she says that the students in her class only do CSCOPE for the first 9 weeks!

This Lumberton Texas teacher labels herself as a LIBERAL TEACHER on TWITTER and has VULGAR anti-Republican pictures and messages on her Twitter

Just in case you want to try to argue that this teacher is not a liberal who, in my opinion, wants to push radical ideas onto the students in Lumberton, go check out this teacher’s past public twitter posts.

The following are some of the past tweets on Lumberton Teacher Michelle Champagne’s twitter account. These past tweets on her account have been archived at http://topsy.com/twitter/mbchampagne because she has now deleted her twitter page

Michelle Champagne’s Twitter Description:

twitter.com/mbchampagne

Lumberton, Texas – Liberal Texas school teacher surrounded by people who cling to their guns and Bibles...

Vulgar,  anti-Christian, anti-Republican, anti-Fox News Tweets found on Michelle Champagne’s Twitter Page:

This following picture of Texas Governor Rick Perry that was posted on Michelle Champagne’s Twitter came with this caption “Here comes Rick Perry, with a crippled swastika aka a cross.

Other Lumberton Teachers have also tried to influence Students with Liberal Propaganda

The idea of liberal influences from teaches in the conservative state of Texas is nothing new. Nearly two years ago, I wrote an article about a Lumberton Teacher, Karen Talbert, who Chastised 6th Grade Students for Watching Fox News Instead of CNN.

Interestingly enough, this is not my first unpleasant run in with Michelle Champagne. It was only a couple years ago that I passed out an American flag to every house in Lumberton on the anniversary of 9/11. The flag came with a flyer promoting conservative values. After passing out the flags, I got an email from a liberal who was not happy. She said I was wrong and she sarcastically said that she will pray to Mother Mary to have her son Jesus help us conservatives make it through this Democratic Rule. The thing that surprised me though was that this person signed this letter as “Michelle Champagne Junior English and World History Teacher”. As you can see, this person did not sign her letter as a concerned citizen. She signed her letter as a high school teacher. In my opinion, she is proud that she gets to spread liberalism to students at Lumberton High School without professionally keeping liberal politics separate from her position as a public teacher.

This article should make you sick to your stomach just thinking about what kind of thins liberal teachers are telling your kids while they are in school.
Parents Should Always Take Time to Ask Your Kids What They Are Learning In School and Take Action When Your Kids Tell You Something Wrong. Also, Check Their Homework and Ask for Copies of Lessons because the Kids Might Not Know They Are Being Taught Wrong. Parents are the Front Line Defense to Stop Liberal Ideas and Lessons from Taking Over our Schools!

Lumberton ISD Looks to Replace Flawed CSCOPE Curriculum. Thanks LISD! Other Schools Should Follow

From the moment I first brought up the flawed Texas CSCOPE curriculum to the Lumberton School Board over two months ago, and through the national controversy over the Lumberton Muslim Burqa School Lesson a month ago, I never once blamed the Lumberton ISD School Board. They, like most people, did not realize the massive problems with CSCOPE. I personally know some of the board members and I know they are Christian Conservatives who would have never allowed CSCOPE at LISD if they would have known the secret problems within CSCOPE (pro communist lessons, incorrect answers, lack of transparency, bias against Christianity, calling Boston Tea Party Patriots Terrorists like 9/11 Terrorists).

Sometimes though, change is hard to get unless you really stir things up and expose enough problems. Although I did not blame the board, what I did do (via writing articles and contacting the school board) is I helped show the board, and the Lumberton community, that CSCOPE is very bad, and then pleaded with the board to take action.

I am very excited to say that the Lumberton School Board has listened and they have formed a committee to examine how CSCOPE can be replaced at Lumberton ISD.

The Lumberton curriculum committee is to be made up of district employees, parents and other community members, and it will present its findings to the administration and board by the June school board meeting.

I encourage other parents and taxpayers in other Texas communities to do the same thing. Go to your local school board meetings, speak to the board and plead with them to stop using CSCOPE because of all of the problems. Then take it further, get a group together and start speaking louder. They might not listen to one voter, but they will listen when a group of voters starts demanding they do away with CSCOPE.

Lumberton ISD Mother Says Bullying (even by Teachers) at School Needs to Stop Being Ignored (VIDEO)

This mother addressed the Lumberton School Board at the 3/7/2013 meeting. This meeting was attended by many Lumberton parents who wanted to talk about the Muslim Burqa Lesson incident and the District's use of the flawed CSCOPE curriculum.
She was very upset and wanted to tell the School Board what was going on and ask for help and for answers.

I  am not going to comment on this video, I just want to post it here for everyone to see and come to their own conclusions.

Lumberton ISD Reponds to CSCOPE & Muslim Burqa Lesson - Blames Texas, Starr/EOC Tests, School Choice (Video)

Lumberton ISD School Board Meeting 3/7/2013

Superintendent Valastro Responds to Angry Parents who packed the
meeting demanding answers to many questions. Some Parents were
upset that the School uses CSCOPE, which has recently been exposed
as a flawed lesson plan that lacks transparency, was designed by
liberals, and contained pro Islam lessons and lessons that have
students draw a communist flag. Some parents were upset about the
situation in which Lumberton Students put on Muslim Burqas at the
school without being informed that Burqas are oppressive objects that, in some countries, must be worn by women or fact death. Some were not as upset at the Burqa lesson as they were upset about the handing of the Burqa incident
such as no parental notification and bullying by teachers and
students. Others felt that teachers are punished if they speak out when things have happened in the past at Lumberton schools.

Mr. Valastro had a long presentation that put the focus for the
problems, and needing to use CSCOPE, on money hungry testing
corporations, the Texas Legislature, too many testing requirements
and school choice.

I am not going to give my opinion about what was said at the
meeting. I simply want to post the response from Mr. Valastro in a fair
way for everyone to see and come up with your own conclusions.

The Islamification of Texas, by Todd Starnes

from Todd Starnes posted on TownHall.com

Imagine browsing Facebook one day and discovered a photograph of your 14-year-old daughter wearing a burqa – at school.
That’s exactly what happened to a parent in Lumberton, Tex. She asked me not to disclose her identity because she fears for her daughter’s safety.
Her daughter’s world geography class was supposed to be learning about the continents. Instead, they were given a tutorial in Islam – complete with authentic Muslim garments. Some of the young ladies were photographed – and the image has now gone viral.
The students were told the purpose of the class was to change their perceptions of Islam. They were instructed to no longer call those who commit terrorist attacks terrorists. Instead, the Muslim terrorists were to be called freedom fighters.
They were also assigned to write an essay based on a Washington Post story that blamed Egypt’s troubles on democracy – instead of the Muslim Brotherhood.
“I am outraged,” the angry mom told me. “I felt my blood pressure go through my head.”
The parent said she was not even aware of the lesson until she discovered the Facebook photograph.
“As parents we should have been made aware this,” she said. “I felt like the line had been crossed.”
The parents said they immediately contacted the principal of the high school who defended the program and said it was required under CSCOPE – a controversial electronic curriculum system that provides online lesson plans for teachers.
“The principal told me it was world geography and they have to learn this stuff,” she said. I called Janice VanCleave, a vocal critic of the CSCOPE program and the founder of Texas CSCOPE Review. She said the education program is without question promoting the Islamic religion – and students are not given the full story.
“They are not telling students how these young women are treated in this religion,” she told me. “In the Islamic countries women are not treated well at all.”
Last month, evidence was presented at a state hearing showing that CSCOPE offered a number of lessons about Islam.

One particular lesson instructed teachers to provide classroom readings of selected texts from the Koran.
Students were also taught that Allah is God.

CSCOPE offered no comparable lessons on Christianity or Judaism, VanCleave told Fox News.

“I do think CSCOPE promotes the Islamic religion,” she said. “I don’t think it’s right to be proselytizing the Islamic religion in our schools.”
She’s got a point.
Imagine for just a moment the school directing Muslim children to dress up like priests – or pretend to be baptized in a pool of water.

Parents to Demand Answers about Muslim Lesson at Lumberton School Board Meeting March 7th, 2013 at 7pm

Parents to Demand Answers about Muslim Lesson at Lumberton ISD School Board Meeting March 7th, 2013 at 7pm. Before the meeting starts, anone can sign up to speak to the school board. This is In response to the High School lesson in Lumberton, Texas that made outrageous claims to the students such as terrorists should be called freedom fighters and Muslim Burqas are just a fashion statement instead of an oppressive object that, if not worn, could mean the death penalty for women in some countries. I am all about students learning other cultures, but this is told far. It is biased, offensive, and does not even show the truth about Muslim things like Burqas. The lesson might have had good intentions but what ended up happening was wrong. This lesson should be immediately suspended and an investigation made into the lesson and what needs to be changed to make sure these mistakes do not happen again.

Senator Patrick says Lumberton ISD is lying about Muslim Lesson

Yesterday, Texas State Senator Dan Patrick launched an investigation after a photo surfaced of students wearing Muslim Burqas and being taught to call Muslim terrorists 'freedom fighters.'  The school defended the lesson by claiming it was a state mandated lesson. It was just announced that Senator Patrick has dropped the investigation because it has been determined that the school lied about the content of this lesson being state mandated. In fact, the contents of this class is something that the Lumberton teacher and/or administration has developed the content of this class and not the state, therefore this is a local issue and not a state issue. The school will have some explaining to do at the next school board meeting.

Update: After Muslim Burqa Lesson, Student Pulled From Lumberton School - not CSCOPE, or was it? - Sen. Patrick Investigating

I took down the original picture and put one up with faces blurred
Update: After Muslim Burqa Lesson, Student Pulled From Lumberton School - minor students cried today after being forced to sign incident report about what happened without parent notified or allowed to be at the meeting, parents furious - the school says this lesson seems to be a Lumberton lesson and not CSCOPE lesson, but CSCOPE Experts say it was CSCOPE influenced - Senator Dan Patrick Investigating

There have been lots of updates after I posted this article this morning: Lumberton ISD (Texas) Students Told to Wear Muslim Burqas in CSCOPE High School Lesson http://www.texasconservativerepublicannews.com/2013/02/lumberton-isd-texas-cscope-students-burqas.html

Here are the updates:

One parent contacted me and said that he pulled his kids out of Lumberton schools 2 years ago because of this exact Islam lesson

Another parent contacted me and told me that her child called her from the school crying because she had to go to the Principal's office this morning and sign an incident report statement staying that they were not forced to wear the Burqas. The parents are now even more furious because they were not informed or asked to be present when their minor child was told to sign a potentially legal form. One parent got a lawyer who said the school was in violation for not letting the parent be present.

It was confirmed that this was a geography class and not a history class.

The teacher I hear was upset that she even had to teach the lesson and told the students she did not agree with it so I am not out to bash the teacher. Clearly this lesson has been forced into the classroom by someone and it needs to be corrected.

State Senator Dan Patrick has today called for an investigation into this lesson.

National News has picked up the story including Todd Starnes of Fox News, Alex Jones Prison Planet, and I got a call from MSN.

It was also confirmed by a parent this morning that the students were not FORCED to wear the Burqas but they were brought as Larry of the lesson and students were asked to try them on. Here is the worst part though, It was also confirmed that the students were told to call terrorists 'freedom fighters' and also the students were taught that Burqas are really just a fashion and the students were not taught that they are a form of oppression and women can even be put to death for not wearing one. Also, it was confirmed that the students were asked to do a report on Egypt that portrayed democracy as bad.

This is OUTRAGEOUS! Look, I am ok with students learning other religions and regions as part if a history or geography class. It sounds like this was the INTENT of the lesson and I think the state of Texas has lessons that teach students different religions and regions. That is ok. What is NOT ok is what happened here and what this lesson has become over the years. Somehow, this lesson that was supposed to talk about different religions ended up only talking about Islam. Burqas were brought and presented as a fashion instead of an oppressive object. The students were asked to call terrorists freedom fighters. This is wrong and the Lumberton School Board needs to take action. I do not believe that the school board knew this was going on. I do not even know how much the superintendent knew of what was going on because I think, or hope, that if he did he would have asked the teacher to make sure it was fair and balanced instead of a lesson slanted in favor or Islam.

Also, although Texas CSCOPE has had major issues because of Islam lessons in schools, this Muslim Burqa lesson was not part of CSCOPE (sccording to the school) and it is a lesson that Lumberton ISD has been doing for years. John Griffing from WND.com believes the school is covering for CSCOPE and he believe this Muslim lesson was influenced by CSCOPE.

Here is a statement from John Griffing about this Lumberton lesson and CSCOPE:

CSCOPE has been in place for the last 8 years, and due to its influence in classrooms, it is premature to rule out CSCOPE as a culprit philosophically, if not materially in this case.

Teachers, as we know from user agreements supplied by Mary Bowen at the hearings on January 31st, are required to teach CSCOPE lesson content exclusively. What this means from an application standpoint is a matter for discussion, but would anyone attempt to argue that prior to CSCOPE such incidences would be as likely?

It certainly seems as if we should be cautious in throwing out CSCOPE as a factor in this case.

TESCCC 2012 - Contract, from Mary Bowen:

“To support implementation of this detailed curriculum, districts must have processes and people in place to insure that there is sustained monitoring of the curriculum and that individual teachers do not have the option to disregard or replace assigned content.”

How exactly can we separate CSCOPE--used by Lumberton ISD--from the current situation? After someone is caught in the commission of an unethical act, can their testimony be trusted?

Lumberton does not deny use of CSCOPE, but does deny it as a factor in this case. Again, it is questionable to throw out CSCOPE as a factor simply due to denials coming in the wake of discovery. I don't know which is worse. The lesson described closely parallels CSCOPE content, and I referenced some of this content in my original article. It's the chicken or the egg. Either way, Lumberton is in violation of an SBOE resolution disallowing the promotion of Islam in classrooms.

Lumberton ISD (Texas) Students Told to Wear Muslim Burqas in CSCOPE High School Lesson

Update: After Muslim Burqa Lesson, Student Pulled From Lumberton School - minor students cried today after being forced to sign incident report about what happened without parent notified or allowed to be at the meeting, parents furious - the school says this lesson seems to be a Lumberton lesson and not CSCOPE lesson, but CSCOPE Experts say it was CSCOPE influenced - Senator Dan Patrick Investigating

original story:

Wow, I don’t even know what to say. I just read a news story by John Griffing on WND.com about my very own Hometown High School in Lumberton, TX (Lumberton ISD) making students wear Muslim Burqas as part of a History class this past week. (picture displayed below is from a Lumberton Student taken when they had to wear Burqas in class)

I took down the original picture and put one up with faces blurred

Update: After I wrote this article I was contacted by a Lumberton resident with a student in this class, she said this Burqa incident was part of the regular CSCOPE lesson taught to the students and not just some extra curricular activity or student led project. The students were not forced to wear the Burqas, but the Burqas were there as part of the lesson and students were encouraged to try them on. That being said, it was confirmed that everything else being reported as happening in this Lumberton class are true, including the students were taught not to call a terrorist a terrorist and instead call them freedom fighters. Also, the teacher I hear was upset that she even had to teach the lesson and told the students she did not agree with it so I am not out to bash the teacher. Clearly this lesson has been forced into the classroom by someone and it needs to be corrected. This is outrageous!

Earlier this Month (February 2013), BEFORE this Burqa lesson was ever taught, I first learned that Lumberton ISD uses CSCOPE and I wrote this article: Lumberton ISD uses Liberal CSCOPE that teaches Allah is God and Boston Tea Party was Terrorism like 9/11

Right after I wrote that article, I went to the Lumberton School Board meeting and spoke to the School Board at the beginning of the meeting. I explained to the school board the problems with CSCOPE and asked them, at least, to have a hearing about CSCOPE and whether or not it should still be used at Lumberton ISD. The school board members did seem concerned and asked the Superintendent questions about CSCOPE. The Superintendent, John Valastro, assured the Board that the CSCOPE program was not used very much and they had not run into any issues with bad lessons getting taught by teacher.

Not even a month after I was assured at the LISD School Board meeting that there were no CSCOPE lesson problems at Lumberton ISD, I get emailed this article from WND with a picture of Lumberton ISD students in Burqas with quotes from students saying they were even told by the teacher that “we are going to change your perception about Islam” and the teacher in the Burqa lesson, according to a student, also said, “I do not necessarily agree with this, but I am supposed to teach you that we are not to call these people terrorists anymore, but freedom fighters.”

The lesson teaches that Burqas are just an alternative dress style that Muslims wear when in reality, women in Muslim countries are oppressed and FORCED to wear these Burqas or face even possibly death. At the end of class, the students were assigned to write a paper about Egypt. According to one student, they were instructed to discuss “how Egypt was a good country until democracy took over, and that things were finally corrected when the Muslim brotherhood came into power.”

I believe Mr. Valastro and do not think he or the School Board deceived me. I do think they probably being deceived though. I do believe there have been bad lessons that have not been brought to his attention and I believe some teachers use, and are even forced to use, CSCOPE lessons on a regular basis instead of just minimally.  That is the problem with CSCOPE though. There is no transparency! Everything is online and there are thousands of lessons that teachers can pick to use without even having to get it approved. Some of these lessons ARE bad lessons. Even the Superintendent and the school board did not know about what was going on with CSCOPE at LISD. Hopefully, now that this Burqa incident has happened and will be on the news all across America, there will be some action taken regarding CSCOPE being taught at Lumberton ISD. Yes there are legislative fixes that should be coming this year, but until then, Lumberton ISD should really consider having a hearing or something to discuss CSCOPE being used at LISD and whether or not it should even be used anymore until the problems get fixed.

Lumberton ISD uses Liberal CSCOPE that teaches Allah is God and Boston Tea Party was Terrorism like 9/11

After this Lumberton school board meeting earlier this month where I informed the School District about possible bad Islam lessons going on in Lumberton classrooms, there have been some very shocking updates:

Update: After Muslim Burqa Lesson, Student Pulled From Lumberton School - not CSCOPE, or was it? - Senator Dan Patrick Investigating

Lumberton ISD (Texas) Students Told to Wear Muslim Burqas in CSCOPE High School Lesson

Original Story:

Update: I just got back from the Lumberton ISD meeting. I was very pleased with the response from Superintendent Valastro and the School Board. Lumberton uses CSCOPE minimally so they have not encountered any of the bad lessons, they are aware of some of the issues and address the issues when they come up, they are following the hearings in the Legislature, and they allow parents to come see CSCOPE lessons.

I highly encourage all other Texans to go to their local School Board Meetings and use the public forum section at the beginning of the meeting to let them know how you feel about CSCOPE and ask the board to address the issues.

previous story:

Please contact the Lumberton Independent School District and ask them to stop using the liberal, flawed, anti-American curriculum called CSCOPE.

This Texas curriculum is not vetted by the State Board of Education, it is full of errors, it teaches outrageous things such as calling the Boston Tea Party a terrorist attack like 9/11, it teaches students that Allah is the true God without any comparable lessons on Christianity, and it even has students draw their own communist flag.

I found out about this bad curriculum about 6 months ago but I had no idea that my hometown school district, LISD, was using CSCOPE. Well, I just found out that they are using CSCOPE. It is very disappointing that my tax dollars are going to pay for this.

Let me be clear, I do not believe that the Lumberton school board members or the superintendent would have approved of CSCOPE if they knew all of the problems with it when it was approved. I am not here today to attack any board members. I like the job Mr. Valastro has done and I know some of the Board members personally and I do not believe they would have approved of CSCOPE knowing the problems with it. Most people in the entire state did not even know of the problems with CSCOPE. All these problems with CSCOPE have recently been revealed in the last 6 months. I do believe though that, now that these issues have come to light, CSCOPE should be suspended pending further review by the School Board via a hearing and also until after the Texas Legislature has finished their investigation into CSCOPE.

Many school districts do not use CSCOPE and there is no need for CSCOPE because the curriculum standards (TEKS) are on the Texas Education Agency website along with many other excellent helps that teachers can use to prepare their students for the new STAAR/EOC tests.

The Texas Legislature is even currently conducting investigation hearings into CSCOPE and the CSCOPE controversy has reached national headlines.

SO WHAT ARE SOME OF THE PROBLEMS WITH CSCOPE?

The following information about CSCOPE is from what was revealed in the Texas Senate Hearing on CSCOPE and from http://www.txcscopereview.com/

There is a growing demand in school district all over Texas to remove CSCOPE from local public schools due to evidence of substandard instructional material, illegally plagiarized lessons, anti-American sentiments, lack of transparency, financial impropriety, anti Christian bias, and even mistakes in the lessons such as math lessons that do not add up to the correct answer.

CSCOPE was originally produced in 2005-2006  by outside consultants, one of whom was Linda Darling-Hammond who is tied to Obama and the Common Core Standards which is a takeover of the public schools by the federal government.

Problems with Transparency and Oversight:

CSCOPE did not seek legal counsel from the Texas Attorney General’s office nor from the Commissioner of Education at the Texas Education Agency, in 2009 when CSCOPE was incorporated as a 501(3)(c) non-charitable organization under the Texas Education Service Center Curriculum Collaborative (TESCCC). When a governmental body seeks to form a 501 (3)(c) it should have seek legislative authority. None was sought for CSCOPE.

The Texas Attorney General's office has said that the TESCCC is a governmental body yet it is using public funds to develop its product; uses public dollars to pay its ESC employees;  has no TESCCC business office; does not post its agenda; does not allow the public into its meetings; and will not allow public access to its minutes. Even worse, the TESCCC attempted to silence teachers by imposing a contract threatening legal action against teachers who allowed parents to view lesson content, which is in direct violation of Texas Education Code Chapter 26 E, Section 26.006.

Why would CSCOPE not want parents to see their children's lesson plans?

There has been no outside, independent review of CSCOPE to make sure that its lessons align with the SBOE-adopted curriculum standards (TEKS) upon which the new STAAR/End-of-Course tests are based.

It even took the chair of the Texas State Board of Education six months to get a password to CSCOPE, and other State Board Members were denied access completely.

The Elected Officials on the Texas State Board of Education are supposed to approve all curriculum standards in Texas. CSCOPE is a curriculum and has not been reviewed or approved by the State Board of Education.

Problems with Content of Lessons - Anti-American, Anti-Christian

One CSCOPE lesson teaches that the Boston Tea Party was a terrorist attack comparable to 9/11. One lesson alleges that police officers found drugs in Paul Revere's home. One lesson teaches the 5 Pillars of Islam, a lesson in which students role play a trek to Mecca, a lesson that teaches Allah is the same as Almighty God. It is important to point out that there are no lessons in CSCOPE that teach students about Christianity. There is a lesson on Christopher Columbus that cherry-picks his diary to take out any of his references to his belief in God. There is even a lesson in which students are instructed to design their own Communist/Socialist flag.

Conclusion

Many School Districts in Texas have already held public hearings to determine whether or not to halt the use of CSCOPE, at least until the Texas Legislature finishes their investigation and gives CSCOPE oversight and transparency.

Some of these outrageous CSCOPE lesson plans have been removed recently because of the national attention it has received, but with no oversight there is no way to know what other bad lessons are still in CSCOPE and they could return at any time.

I do not believe that the school board members or the superintendent at Lumberton ISD were aware of the problems with CSCOPE. I know a couple of y'all and I am sure you would not have approved a lesson plan that promotes communism. Now that the Lumberton School Board DOES know, I do believe action should be taken to address and correct the issue.
