Big crowd for small town at the Kountze kids student faith rally/football game on Oct 5th, 2012! This was the first home football game since the Kountze ISD superintendent banned cheerleaders (and all students) from holding personal made signs at public football games if the signs had Bible verses or other religious encouragements. The stands were PACKED with people and there were lots of religious encouragement signs with Christian Bible verses. The stadium was packed and the spectators were holding the signs to show support for the Kountze kids who were standing up for their faith and their Constitutional rights. Texas Gov Rick Perry even skyped the cheerleaders before the game to tell them to stand strong and they have his support. There were several media outlets in attendance, including national media outlets. the game started with the football players running out with a flag flying in wind that had encouraging Bible verse. Then they ran through big banner with religious encouragement. I did see one lone group of a couple people holding anti religious signs (which is their right to hold them). The event was a success and a great show of support for this cause. Texas District Judge Steve Thomas has issued a temporary restraining order which allows the cheerleaders to have the Christian signs pending a final decision by him. My favorite sign at the rally was of a WWII Veteran Charlie Henson who held a sign that said "In WWII 470,000 Americans Died Defending your Freedom and Right to do it (hold christian signs) So Do It!"

How were the separation of church & state signs "anti-religious"?
ReplyDeleteDon't look anti religious to me
ReplyDeleteI guess it would be more accurate to say anti religious expression signs
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing in the Constitution about "separation of church and state"
ReplyDeleteOh but there is. It's called the 1st Amendment.
DeleteGreat show of support. Thanks to all and thanks to Angel Gardens for their food, drinks and hospitality!
ReplyDeleteTrue there were a lot of Christians at the game last night. And it is obvious there were a few that think there is some clause in the US Constitution that separates Church and State (Government) I strongly suggest they read that document. There was also a few Non-Christians there who Christianity offends them and they support the children having the religious banners as long as the Government and in this case the school does not tell the students to have these banners.
