NOT JUST CATHOLICS! Obama Sued by Houston Baptist University & East Texas Baptist University Over Obamacare Contraception Mandate

Joe Biden said in his debate with Paul Ryan that Obamacare would not force any religious institution to violate their faith. Paul Ryan replied by asking why then is the Catholic Church suing you over Obamacare forcing them to violate their faith?

The fact of that matter is, it is not just the Catholic Church that is suing over Obamacare forcing them to violate their faith. Since the Catholic Bishops boldly stood up and publicly opposed Obamacare's unconstitutional mandates, there have been DOZENS of other organizations that have also filed lawsuits against the unconstitutional Obamacare Mandates that will force these organizations/business owners to violate their faith.

I have previously posted up articles about Obamacare Lawsuits including, Hobby Lobby CEO Stands up Against Obama's Anti-Christian and Job Killing Obamacare Mandates, and Media Ignoring Catholic Obamacare Lawsuits? That Explains Biden Not Knowing Obamacare Violates Faith

Now it is the Baptist Churches and Institutions who are challenging Obama over Obamacare's unconstitutional anti-religious mandates.

Baptist Colleges Sue Obama Admin Over HHS-Abortion Mandate

Further proving that opposition to the Obama administration’s HHS mandate is not limited to Catholic groups, two Baptist-affiliated colleges filed their own lawsuit today against the HHS mandate that promotes abortion.

Today, East Texas Baptist University (ETBU) and Houston Baptist University (HBU) filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, asking the court for relief from the Department of Health and Human Services’ “preventative services” mandate, which forces the Christian Universities to violate their deeply held religious beliefs or pay severe fines.

“Baptists in America, by virtue of their history, are particularly sensitive to coercive government actions that infringe on religious liberty,” says Eric Rassbach, Deputy General Counsel for The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, which filed suit this morning on behalf of the two universities.

“America’s first Baptist leader, Roger Williams, had to flee Massachusetts and found a colony in Providence, Rhode Island, because his religious beliefs were not tolerated by the laws of Massachusetts.  We shouldn’t have to fight for that same right today,” Rassbach added.

East Texas Baptist University and Houston Baptist University’s religious convictions prevent them from providing their employees with access to abortion-causing drugs. The Universities’ lawsuit aims to preserve their religious liberty and the right to carry out their missions free from government coercion.

“Baptists have always advocated religious liberty, and religious liberty is what is at stake in this situation,” says Dr. Samuel Oliver, President, East Texas Baptist University. “As the famous Baptist preacher, George W. Truett once remarked, ‘A Baptist would rise at midnight to plead for absolute religious liberty for his Catholic neighbor, and for his Jewish neighbor, and for everybody else.’ We are rising today to ensure that religious liberty, the first freedom guaranteed in the First Amendment of the United States Constitution, is protected and preserved.”

The two Universities face fines of over $10 million per year, per institution, if they do not comply with the HHS mandate, the Becket Fund said.

There are now 33 separate lawsuits challenging the HHS mandate, which is a regulation under the Affordable Care Act (aka “Obamacare”). The Becket Fund is leading the charge along with other pro-life legal groups like the ACLJ and Alliance Defending Freedom. Becket also represents Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc., Wheaton College, Belmont Abbey College, Colorado Christian University, the Eternal Word Television Network, and Ave Maria University.
