Florida Governor Rick Scott Reverses Position On Obamacare
Florida Governor Rick Scott announced Wednesday evening he had made a deal with the federal government and would now accept Obamacare's Medicaid Expansion, the initial implementation of President Obama's Affordable Care Act.Governor Scott had previously been a champion of Tea party and conservative grassroots efforts to prevent the expansion of Medicaid in the state of Florida. He announced this policy reversal in a hasty press conference.
Inside sources had informed Breitbart News of the Governor’s intention to announce the reversal of his stated ideals and policy decisions during a press conference Thursday morning. After the Florida chapter of Americans for Prosperity Director Slade O’Brien spoke out on the matter, Governor’s Scott’s office changed the time of the press conference to Wednesday at the end of the workday.
Tarren Bragdon, CEO of the Foundation for Government Accountability, a prominent Florida-based free-market think tank, told Breitbart News, “It is extremely disappointing to have Governor Scott do an about-face on his signature issue."
He continued, "The grassroots fight against the implementation of Obamacare, in large part, began with Governor Rick Scott and Conservatives for Patients’ Rights in 2009. He set this effort up and basically said there is no way the Obamacare’s expansion of Medicaid will happen on his watch.”
"The governor will now couch his policy reversal as 'I’ll not stand in the way of the expansion of it, if it’s introduced,'" Bragdon further stated. Slade O'Brien and his Florida Chapter of Americans for Prosperity released this statement:
Governor Scott’s announcement today is extremely disappointing. Governor Scott had been a national leader in the fight against President Obama’s healthcare takeover. He was elected because of his principled conservative leadership against ObamaCare’s overreach, and led the charge, with Attorney General Pam Bondi, to take ObamaCare to the Supreme Court. But today he came out in support of the Medicaid expansion he vowed to oppose. The expansion of Medicaid has been at the forefront of states’ efforts to stop the implementation of Obama’s health care initiatives.
