Federal Election Commission Complaint Alleges Ties Between Stovall and Cornyn to attack Stockman

A Federal Election Commission (FEC) complaint has been filed against Senate candidate Dwayne Stovall for allegedly coordinating with Sen. Cornyn's campaign.  The speculation arose when Stovall mostly attacked Congressman Stockman rather than Cornyn who both Stockman and Stovall want out. This race is not a situation where you have to attack other conservatives in the race in order to make the runoff. The race is a race where there will not even be a runoff unless all the conservatives in the race go after the incumbent and draw enough votes from Cornyn to force the runoff. I like Stovall, but none of them are going to make a runoff if Stovall is only going after Stockman, who is a top conservative, instead of focusing on Cornyn, the real man that votes need to be taken from.

A leading Republican consultant who contacted me stated, "This strategy of attacking Congressman Stockman is really odd because if Stovall really believed that he would make it to a run off with Sen. Cornyn, he would need Stockman's support.  Instead, he is attacking Stockman, a popular Congressman from East Texas who won with an overwhelming vote two years ago."

Just last week, Stockman received an award for his 100% conservative voting record by the American Conservative Union (ACU), the most renown national conservative organization, and is endorsed by Jerome Corsi, senior commentator for TeaParty.org.

Ted Cruz and Congressman Stockman are the only Texas representatives in Washington to score 100% with ACU.  This follows Stockman's score from Heritage Foundation which also shows Cruz and Stockman the top two most conservative legislators from Texas. Also last year, the conservative New American rated Stockman 100%

The FEC complaint alleges that Stovall accepted an in-kind contribution from a known Cornyn supporter and did not report the funding on his FEC report.

Stovall has accused Stockman of paying the Austin American-Statesman, a liberal newspaper, for their poll that has 5% margin of error and shows Stovall with less than 5% of the vote.

"This accusation that Stockman is behind every poll showing Stovall losing is sheer insanity," said Dallas Stockman supporter Al Lee. "Stovall's allegations make it clear that he wants to blame others for his lag in the polls and that he can't accept responsibility for his own campaign. Making up polls and conspiracies is a hallmark of failing campaigns. Stockman has repeatedly turned the other cheek, but has taken note that Stovall can only praise Cornyn."

Stockman vs. Cornyn: Rocky Running for Texas Senate

The following was sent to me to post up regarding the Texas U.S. Senate Race 2014:

Rocky Running for Texas Senate
February 15,2014

One of the most interesting political contests to watch is the race for John Cornyn’s Texas Senate seat. Cornyn is a 2-term incumbent with at least $8.5 million in his war chest and plenty of resources to tap for more. His number one challenger, who has been billed as a “Tea Party Favorite” by many in the media, started the race with just $32 thousand and still has not raised very much more. Stockman is clearly the underdog. Most experts scoffed at the idea that he even had a chance to win this race.

Obviously Senator Cornyn was not laughing. Within hours of Stockman’s filing, a huge negative campaign arose with websites and Google ads and radio spots popping up so suddenly that one can only conclude that Cornyn anticipated the challenge and had an armory of weapons ready to annihilate the upstart before he could gain any traction. Not only did attacks from Cornyn and Super PACs supporting him commence firing the big guns, one of the seven other challengers in the race soon shifted his aim against Stockman rather than against Cornyn, as traditional campaign wisdom would dictate.

The pummeling that Stockman has withstood over the weeks since filing in November has been relentless and merciless. In addition, although Stockman withdrew his filing to run for re-election of his Congressional seat (TX-36) when he filed to run for Senate, he did not resign his job as a Congressman. The job requires him to be in Washington DC four days a week and to travel back and forth in order to have any time at all to campaign—or to do anything else. That means that Stockman has barely even defended himself against the attacks from two sides. By all rights, we would expect Stockman to be pounded into insignificance in the contest by this time. But he is not!

Our information has it that a poll that will be released on Monday shows that Senator Cornyn, who started at 50% at the time Stockman entered the race and who has spent millions of dollars promoting his campaign and more millions attacking Stockman as being “shady”, is still at that same 50%. Meanwhile, Stockman, who is running with virtually no money and very few hours a week to devote to campaign, has risen from the 6% he was at when he initially filed to a very respectable 21% today, with the half dozen other challengers all trailing far behind.

There was a very famous boxer named Rocky Marciano, on whom the Rocky Balboa character was loosely based, who was known to be so tough that he could let his opponent pummel him until his arms were too tired to punch any more and then Rocky would step in and finish him off. One can not help but see the comparison to Stockman. Not many in politics could withstand the beating that Stockman has taken and even fewer could move the ball forward while the pounding is going on. But, this is not the first time Congressman Stockman has done this. In fact, it appears to be somewhat typical of his campaigns.

In 1994, Stockman, a conservative Republican, won election to the House in a district that was 60% Democrat with a 42-year incumbent who was one of the most powerful men in the House and who had virtually unlimited money to spend and no compunctions about viciously attacking an opponent until he was beaten into a quivering mound of jelly. And, Congressman Jack Brooks certainly did not restrain himself in his attacks against Stockman. He outspent Stockman 12:1 and seemed confident of a victory up until the final tally when Stockman emerged victorious. Then in 1996, after redistricting that gerrymandered his district (TX-9) to be even less friendly to a Republican, he was unseated.

Again in 2012 Stockman faced an opponent who spent more than ten times what Stockman spent and who thought he was sailing to an easy win when Stockman seemingly arose from his political death bed to win a shot at a runoff, then to win the runoff and then the general election to make him the first Representative for the new Texas Congressional District 36.

Now, it appears he may do it again. Just a few weeks ago nobody gave him a prayer to win the Senate seat and many said he must be crazy to walk away from a certain win for his re-election to the House in order to run for the Senate. It will be interesting to see how their assessments will change on Monday when the poll results are published. Stockman has a very strong record of winning runoffs and if Cornyn can not get at least one vote above 50%, he will have to face “Rocky” in a runoff—it is like seeing Marciano step toward you when you are too tired to lift up your arms.

Liberal Media Attacks Congressman Stockman for not Telling Terrorists he was in Middle East

The liberal media has been bashing Congressman Stockman because Stockman has missed a week or so of votes and didn't tell anyone that he was on a secret congressional visit to terrorist nations. I guess the liberal media thinks Congressman Stockman should have alerted the terrorists that him and other Congressmen were going to be there? Congressman Stockman is running for US Senate against a more moderate John Cornyn. It is no secret that the liberal media so not want Stockman to win.

from Congressman Steve Stockman:

The press makes no mention of the fact that I serve on the Subcommittee on Europe, Eurasia, and Emerging Threats.  The press wanted me violate the State Department policy that prohibits Members of Congress traveling abroad on official business from publicly disclosing their whereabouts.  I was not going to jeopardize the safety of the Congressmen and Congresswoman I was traveling with.  There were five bombings in Egypt only two days after we were there.  While we were in Israel, there were 17 missile strikes and three suspects were arrested for planning to blow up the U.S. Embassy.

Conservative Congressman Steve Stockman Running for U.S. Senate against John Cornyn

In a shocking turn of events, Tea Party Conservative Congressman Steve Stockman announced at the 11th hour on filing deadline day that he will be running for U.S. Senate against current Senator John Cornyn in the Texas Republican Primary Election March 4th, 2014.

This announcement from Stockman immediately makes the Texas U.S. Senate race one of the most interesting races in America. Stockman is not the only person who filed to challenge Cornyn, but Stockman is certainly the most well-known of the challengers.

Stockman was well known for defeating Liberal Democrat Congressman Jack Brooks in East Texas many years ago. He came roaring back to Congress in 2012 to fight Obama. Stockman is considered as the most fearless conservative in the U.S. House and has a 100% lifetime conservative rating. Stockman’s record as a staunch conservative is clear, from introducing bills to stop Obamacare, to introducing bills to stop killing babies, to introducing bills to audit the Federal Reserve, to introducing bills to protect gun rights, to inviting Ted Nugent to the President’s State of the Union, to inviting the Obama rodeo clown to Texas.

One of my favorite bumper stickers ever is a Steve Stockman bumper sticker that says “If Babies Had Guns They Wouldn’t Be Aborted.”

This announcement from Congressman Stockman has completely turned the political world in Texas, and America, upside down. Who will win is anyone’s guess, but John Cornyn certainly has a race on his hands!

Senator John Cornyn is the current U.S. Senator from Texas alongside Senator Ted Cruz. Senator Ted Cruz won in 2012 so he is not up for election again this year. Senator John Cornyn took some heat when he broke ranks with Senator Ted Cruz when Cruz was fighting against Obamacare. This, among other things, caused Cornyn to draw challengers in the 2014 Republican Primary Election who say that Texas needs a more conservative U.S. Senator to serve Texas alongside Conservative Fighter Ted Cruz.

Obama's Arne Duncan slimes women in Common Core attack - Rep. Stockman Calls for Resignation

the following is a press release I got from Congressman Steve Stockman today:

Stockman asks Obama to fire Duncan over anti-women comments
Obama education secretary says critics are just suburban moms with dumb kids

WASHINGTON -- Congressman Steve Stockman Monday asked President Barack Obama to fire Education Secretary Arne Duncan after comments Friday in which Duncan dismissed opponents of Common Core as suburban moms with dumb kids.

“The Obama administration is now using ‘suburban mom’ as a dismissive slur and even attacking the children of political opponents,” said Stockman. “It’s typical of the Obama administration’s disrespectful treatment of women who express differing opinions. He even called moms and dads with families ‘fringe groups.’”

“If there is a ‘War on Women’ the Obama administration just launched a tactical strike,” said Stockman. “Obama should fire Duncan for saying some opponents of Common Core should be dismissed because of their race and gender.”

“It’s fascinating to me that some of the pushback is coming from, sort of, white suburban moms who — all of a sudden — their child isn’t as brilliant as they thought they were and their school isn’t quite as good as they thought they were, and that’s pretty scary,” Duncan said in a speech Friday in Richmond, Va., addressing the Council of Chief State Schools Officers Organization.

“Common Core is Obamacare for education. It’s a top-down, one-size-fits-all that brings all children down to a common level,” said Stockman. “Opposition comes from men and women of all races who don’t want their children trapped in Common Core’s failure factory.”

Duncan’s remarks were confirmed by Education Department Assistant Secretary for Communications and Outreach Massie Ritsch and reported Saturday by the Washington Post.

“Opposition to Common Core must be led by the states. Texas may not have officially taken Common Core standards, but they did work with the same groups in the writing of the TEKS. Texas needs to kill CScope and reject Race to the Top funding if we are to get Washington mediocrity out of our schools,” said Stockman.

Houston Chronicle Editor Tim Fleck Attacks Texas Congressman Stockman after Stockman Calls for Investigation into Obama's White House Scandals

Congressman Steve Stockman
You know a conservative leader is doing the right thing when the liberal media attacks him/her. Well, Texas Congressman Steve Stockman is certainly doing the right thing because he has the liberal media attacking him on a daily basis. The next attack is expected to come from Tim Fleck of the Houston Chronicle. Fleck is a liberal editor who used to work for the Houston Press. Fleck takes his bias up a notch above most liberal media though because Fleck, on top of just writing negative articles about Stockman, has also tried to sue Congressman Stockman in the past and has even been accused of breaking into Stockman's home. Apparently, Fleck is not happy about the most recent press release from Congressman Stockman. See press release below after Stockman's statement regarding Fleck.

Statement from Congressman Stockman's Office Regarding Fleck's upcoming Chronicle Smear:

The Houston Chronicle will run the ambush story
Sunday that will
misrepresent a recent error made by staffers and make personal attacks against Congressman Stockman.

Two weeks ago Congressman found out two staffers in his congressional office made
contributions not allowed under FEC rules.  As soon he I found out the
contributions were refunded and corrective action taken.

They obeyed the law.  That’s the story.

Or more correctly, the lack of a story.

That is why the Chronicle will try to fluff it up by making other
unrelated and unfounded attacks to create controversy where none
exists.

The reason is simple.  The Houston Chronicle has employed Tim Fleck to
its editorial board. Fleck has been obsessed with Congressman Stockman since June 1996, when he forced his way into his home and verbally abused campaign volunteers until sheriff’s deputies were called. Now he using the Houston Chronicle for his personally crusade.

He has since sued Stockman unsuccessfully, and apparently cannot let it go.

Fleck once picked up a coral snake and was surprised when it bit him
and he had to go to the hospital, so he’s not the kind who learns
quickly.

He has written obsessively about Congressman Stockman for 17 years and is now using his position at the Chronicle to continue his obsession by having four different reporters follow Congressman Stockman's and his staff, even watching Congressman Stockman take out his household trash.

One of the reasons Americans are abandoning newspapers in droves is the fact they now try to put journalistic lipstick on a partisan-slanted pig.  The Chronicle’s hiring of Fleck and the upcoming personal attack are why growing numbers of Houstonians don't believe what they read in the paper.

Stockman gives Obama impeachment book to every Congressional office, calls for full congressional investigations, prosecution of the White House

WASHINGTON -- Congressman Steve Stockman distributed to all members of Congress this month copies of “Impeachable Offenses: The Case For Removing Barack Obama From Office.”

“I hope this book helps convince my colleagues to hold Barack Obama legally responsible for his disregard for the law.  When told of his offense, Obama sought to cover them up rather than accept responsibility and correct the mistakes,” said Stockman.

Stockman is the sponsor of H.Res. 306, which would force a vote on establishing a Select Committee with full subpoena power to investigate the Sept. 11, 2012 terrorist attacks on Benghazi.

“Impeachment should only be a rare and last resort, but the book provides important details on the Obama administration’s offenses against office,” said Stockman.

“From Benghazi to Fast and Furious to crony deals for ‘green’ energy to Obamacare the lawless Obama administration must be reined in.  I am calling on Congress to establishment Select Committees on these scandals with full subpoena power,” said Stockman.

“We’ve seen how the Obama administration smears and defames their critics.  Congress should investigate these scandals and turn the matters over to special prosecutors,” said Stockman.

“Impeachable Offenses” is authored by New York Times best-selling authors Aaron Klein and Brenda J. Elliott

Rep. Stockman: September brings fourth-worst Obama Failometer Score - Black Unemployment Still Higher than under Bush

The following press release was sent to me from Texas Congressman Steve Stockman:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Monday, October 22, 2013
Contact: Donny Ferguson, Donny@mail.house.gov

Economy still floundering as September brings fourth-worst Obama Failometer Score
Black unemployment still higher than any month under Bush
Labor force participation ties 35-year low
Job growth drops 12 percent

WASHINGTON - The nation's economy continues to flounder and full recovery appears even further away, according to an objective mathematical measurement of the nation's economic indicators released Tuesday by Congressman Steve Stockman (R-Texas 36.)

The economy continues to fail to recover under Obama as Obama Failometer Score stood at 1,173 last month. This is the fourth-worst Obama's Failometer score this year.

Obama can set the Failometer to zero simply by outperforming George W. Bush on the economy and fulfilling his 2008 and 2012 campaign promises to help blacks and Hispanics gain economically.

"ObamaCare is sand in the gears of our economy.  Job growth slumped 12 percent in one month and black unemployment is still near record highs," said Stockman "Our economy won't recover until we replace Obama's failed policies."

"Under Democrats misery is becoming the new normal.  We can do better."

The Obama Failometer uses a fixed mathematical score to calculate four economic indicators from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.  The figures from the monthly reports are weighted to provide a balanced total score, which ranges from zero to 1,000. A score of 0 represent economic stability and racial equality. The higher the score, the deeper the economic failure.

So far, Obama is worse than Bush.

Since its creation Obama has failed to generate a Failometer score that can be contained within the chart's range of zero to 1000.

The Obama Failometer Score was originally displayed on a ten-foot-long billboard displayed in the hallways of the Capitol's Cannon House Office building.  House officials ordered it torn down in January after Democrats complained.

Here is how the Obama Failometer Score is calculated:

FACTORS MEASURED AGAINST BUSH

Monthly jobs created: The Hamilton Project, a liberal economic policy group, stated last year the economy must create 321,000 jobs a month in order to return the economy to pre-recession employment levels by December 2016, the end of Obama's term.

As the economy continues to flounder under Obama that number has grown, but the Obama Failometer will continue to use it, which gives him some statistical relief.

Obama promised to not only restore the economy to where it was under Bush, but grow it.  So far Obama has failed to even perform as well as Bush.

This Obama Failometer score portion is calculated by subtracting the number of jobs created in the previous month from the 321,000 jobs claimed necessary by the liberal Hamilton Project and dividing by 1,000 to balance it against other factors.

The BLS reports the economy created only 148,000 jobs last month, 173,000 fewer than needed to restore the economy.  This portion of the Obama Failometer Score is 173.

Civilian labor force participation rate:  The civilian labor force participation rate, the ratio between those 16 and over in the labor force against the national population of those 16 and over, is an important measure of economic health.  After puttering along during the Bush administration, including through the "Bush years" of the recession, under Obama it has plunged sharply.

This Obama Failometer score portion is calculated by subtracting the monthly civilian labor force participation rate from the average Bush administration rate and multiplying by 100 to balance it against other factors. According to data from the BLS, under Bush the average monthly civilian labor force participation rate was around 66.2 percent.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the monthly civilian labor force participation rate last month stood at 63.2 percent, the worst rate since August 1978 and 3.0 percent worse than Bush's average of 66.2 percent.  This portion of the Obama Failometer Score is 300.

FACTORS MEASURED AGAINST OBAMA'S OWN RHETORIC

Black unemployment:  No one has suffered more economically under Obama than black Americans. Obama's election and re-election has meant crippling poverty for the black community.

This Obama Failometer score portion is calculated by taking the monthly unemployment rate for blacks and subtracting the monthly unemployment rate for all Americans, and multiplying it by 100 to balance it against other factors.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the black unemployment rate last month was 12.9 percent, while the national overall rate was 7.2 percent.  That is a gap of 5.7 percent. This portion of the Obama Failometer Score is 570.

Compare Obama's performance to Bush's.  The highest monthly unemployment rate ever for blacks under Bush was 12.1 percent.  Obama's lowest rate is now 12.6 percent in Jul.  He has never performed as well as Bush's worst black unemployment rate.

Bush's average black unemployment rate was 9.7 percent and an overall national average of 5.2 percent, a 4.5 percent gap that gives Bush a score of 450.

Hispanic unemployment:  Despite winning the Hispanic vote, Obama's liberal policies have caused widespread damage to the Hispanic community.  Thanks to Obama, they continue to lag behind the national average in many economic factors.

This Obama Failometer score portion is calculated by taking the monthly unemployment rate for Hispanics and subtracting the monthly unemployment rate for all Americans, and multiplying it by 100 to balance it against other factors.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the Hispanic unemployment rate last month grew to a stunning 8.5 percent, while the national overall rate was 7.2 percent.  That is a gap of 1.3 percent.  This portion of the Obama Failometer Score is 130.

The Hispanic unemployment rate hit its all-time historic low of 4.7 percent during Bush's last term.  It is almost twice that rate under Obama.

THEREFORE, THIS MONTH'S OBAMA FAILOMETER SCORE IS 1,173.

Congressman Stockman Investigating ATF use of IRS & Perjury to Target Kountze, TX Pastor

An ATF agent, Tom Harm, is being investigated for allegedly using the IRS to target a Kountze, TX pastor, Tony Thornton. Harm, a former IRS agent, was caught on a recording telling Mr. Thornton that he is going to snoop around in the pastor’s finances and taxes. Next thing you know, Mr. Thornton’s personal, business and ministry tax returns were all three hit with audits at the same time. Where did at least one of the audits come from? None other than that corrupt Cincinnati, Ohio IRS office that is now famous for targeting conservative groups. The audits all came back clear, but the point is that if it is true that Mr. Thornton was targeted by the IRS via this ATF agent, and the evidence suggests that it is, then this is a HUGE problem. It is illegal and must be stopped.

This is not just about a local pastor and an ATF agent. This is about the ATF having the ability to get the IRS to target anyone they want with an audit. This is one of the big reasons that Congressman Steve Stockman’s office has started an investigation. Regardless of what you think about the pastor, if the ATF agent can target this pastor then who else has he and will he target using the IRS? Who knows, maybe I will be targeted next because the ATF agent does not like this article I wrote?

At the end of this article you can see a copy of the letter that Congressman Stockman sent to the U.S. Attorney’s Beaumont office regarding the possible problems with the ATF and IRS in this case. The previous U.S. Attorney in Beaumont before this current one could not get any indictments against Thornton because the proof was not there to back any case against Thornton. Now with evidence of wrongdoing by the ATF agent and the IRS, the current U.S. Attorney in Beaumont might just have to drop the case. They have already pushed the case back several years.

The Kountze, TX Church Fire – Accusation of a Rouge ATF agent lying, committing perjury, spreading rumors, etc.

In addition to using the IRS to target people, there is also evidence that this ATF agent committed perjury to the Grand Jury in order to get an indictment, spread false rumors, and used his position to oppress members of the East Texas community of Kountze. Heck, the ATF agent even was asked if the interviews with Kountze community members were being recorded and the Agent said no, but then a court ordered the agency to turn over all the evidence and sure enough the meetings with community members were being recorded and the ATF agent is heard in his own recording telling Kountze community members that they were not being recorded.

Again, regardless of what you think happened or did not happen in Kountze, TX, it is wrong for any government agency to act above the law and violate the rights of people. If they do it to this pastor then they can do it to you.

I love the community of Kountze and I loved the church community at First Baptist. It was tragic what happened and I want the truth to come out too. That being said, the community should not have their rights trampled on by the government using unlawful tactics.

Here is how it all started. Several years ago, the First Baptist Church in Kountze, TX burned to the ground.
The ATF comes in to try to find out what happened. They go around town spreading rumors and intimidating people by telling them things like “they are not allowed to tell anyone they were talked to and if they do then the ATF will know.” The intimidation was not getting them anywhere so they then start spreading false rumors such as saying that the Pastor was having an affair with his secretary. A local county official asked the ATF agents why they were saying these blatantly false things and the ATF agent replied and said that they were starting the rumors to stir the community and see if someone comes forward with something true. This of course is outrageous. I respect the ATF’s job of trying to find out how the church burned down, but the government cannot intentionally spread false rumors and intimidate people like this. I suppose it is not all that surprising that the ATF did this considering the ATF allowed thousands of weapons to be sold to Mexican Drug Cartels, and one of the weapons was used to kill a border patrol agent Brian Terry.

Pastor Thornton was the President of the Hardin County Disaster Relief Fund. There was some controversy surrounding this non-profit disaster relief group. Philip Klein of the Southeast Texas Political Review came up with the idea that this group’s secret documents were stored in the church office and so the Pastor must have burned the church to burn the non-profit’s documents. I am currently supporting and writing about Klein’s employee Stephen Hartman who was illegally arrested trying to serve lawsuit papers to corrupt Jefferson County Judge Layne Walker. I cannot support Klein’s belief that the church was burned down because of documents in the church office. How can I be sure? I know there were no documents in the church office because I used to go to First Baptist Church and I worked with the youth group and was in and around every part of the church office. There were no secret rooms with documents.

The ATF of course found NO EVIDENCE at all that any documents were stored in the church. They have found NO EVIDENCE that Pastor Thornton was at all involved in the church burning. They have not even provided any reason why they believe the church burning was even arson. No one has been indicted or charged in connection with the church burning.

The ATF agent did not want to walk away from the investigation empty handed though, so he started looking at the Hardin County Disaster Relief Fund. Sure there were some problems with the fund, but it had nothing to do with the fire. One of the contractors sending invoices to the fund for repairs to hurricane damaged homes was discovered to have sent some invoices in even though no work was done. When Pastor Thornton and the group’s board found out, they took action and put a lien against the construction company to recoup the funds. The Disaster Relief fund no question should have done a better job of making sure the work that was supposed to be done was getting done. Out of hundreds of homes though, most of the money in the fund went to actually help the hurricane victims who needed help. There were even a few who lied on their application to get disaster funds and said they had no money even though they made nearly 100,000 bucks a year. Unfortunately, that happens in all areas of government and it should be cracked down on everywhere, not just in regards to this disaster fund.

Then there was the allegation that it was illegal for some of the materials that the fund purchased had come from Pastor Thornton’s lumber company. This turned out to be a non-issue because Pastor Thornton had denied anyone being able to buy lumber from his yard with Disaster fund money unless the board and State of Texas approved it. The State of Texas sent Pastor Thornton a letter stating that it would not be a conflict of interest and the Board approved it. Even then, materials with the Disaster group’s money were purchased from several different lumber yards, with Pastor Thornton being only one of the many places where materials were purchased.  The ATF agent saw this letter from the State and he said that he does not care if the State of Texas said there was no conflict of interest because he is the Federal Government and can trump the State.

Then lastly, there was one true mistake that Pastor Thornton made. Pastor Thornton’s wife was dying and it was expensive. Thornton made the bad decision to take some money out of the disaster fund to pay for his wife’s medical bills. He paid back the money with interest before anyone found out and then he admitted and apologized to the disaster fund board for what he had done even though they would have never had caught him. This was all before any investigations happened. I am not defending these actions. There is no question that this was not the right thing and a big mistake and it would have been stealing had it not been for him paying it back, regardless of the reason Pastor Thornton had to take the money. With the money paid back and the board taking the matter into their own hands and handling it internally, there was no evidence to prosecute for stealing money because, before any investigation, the money was put back.

I am not writing this article to try to say that Tony Thornton did not make mistakes and should not have to answer for his actions to the extent of what is true based on evidence, not rumors and lies. I am not writing this article to say that the church fire was not arson. I am not writing this article because I want to cover up the truth. I do want to know who burned down the church I loved and used to attend. I do want the community of Kountze to heal. I want to make sure government agencies and organizations using government funds are transparent and cut out waste and fraud. That being said, it is wrong for the government to target anyone they want using IRS audits and spreading rumors as part of an investigation technique. It is especially wrong for an agent to lie in order to secure a grand jury indictment. Just provide the facts and evidence and let the Grand Jury decide. Furthermore, as a former member of the church, it is just plain ridiculous to say that the church stored the paperwork and computers of the disaster relief fund. That I do know for a fact.

I applaud Congressman Stockman for standing by his constituents in Hardin County and opening an investigation into the actions of the ATF and IRS handling of this situation. Again, not matter what you might think about the situation and who might have done what, it is wrong for the government to abuse their power because if they do it to one person they can and will do it to others.

Letter from David Covey of Congressman Stockman’s office to the Beaumont U.S. Attorney in charge of the case against Pastor Thornton (letter originally posted online by Philip Klein):

Rep. Steve Stockman: ‘The right to keep and bear arms is granted by God’

The following article is from the Houston Chronicle's Texas on the Potomac:

Texas congressman Steve Stockman is about as strong a supporter of gun rights as there is.
He believes that the right to keep and bear arms is protected by the Bill of Rights. But he believes that gun rights run far deeper than the U.S. Constitution.
“The right to keep and bear arms is granted by God and protecting from government aggression by the Constitution,” he said today in explaining his opposition to the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty. “It is not subject to the whims of global totalitarians massed in New York City.”
Stockman, a Republican from Friendswood, was one of 17 Texas Republicans to sign a letter to President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry demanding they not sign the U.N. treaty. Another 113 lawmakers joined the conservative Texans.
The Texas congressman said the treaty “requires nations that sign on to it to record and track all guns and gun owners in their country, and submit the list to the ‘international secretariat.’ It would also require signing nations to ban many common types of hunting rifles.”
“I oppose any U.N. treaty touching the right to keep and bear arms,” Stockman said. “It’s beyond time for the United States to withdraw from the U.N.”
Here’s the letter and the complete list of signatories:

Congressman Steve Stockman is only TX Rep to Stand for Christian Homeschool Family Facing Deportation and German Religious Prosecution

My Congressman Steve Stockman is the only U.S. Rep from Texas to sign this letter with 26 other Reps urging the United States attorney General Eric Holder NOT to deport a Christian Homeschooling family who legally fled to America to get away from prosecution for homeschooling their children with Christian values.

Obama and his administration have no problem standing up for THOUSANDS of criminal illegal immigrants and allowing them to stay in America so why is he not allowing this law abiding family to stay here even though they fled here legally due to the threat of prosecution due to their religion?

27 Members of Congress Petition Eric Holder to Grant Asylum to Homeschooling German Family

Twenty-seven members of Congress have lent their support to the Romeike family, signing a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder urging him to grant the family asylum in the United States.
The family fled Germany in 2010 after the country threatened to take their children because they decided to homeschool.  They were originally granted asylum, but U.S. authorities overruled the decision in 2012 and roughly two weeks ago, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals sided with U.S. officials to deny the Romeike family asylum.
Congressman Marlin Stutzman’s (R-IN) letter to Eric Holder, signed by 26 fellow lawmakers, begins:

The Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) has been representing the family, and plans to file an appeal before the entire 15-member Sixth Circuit in the hopes the family will be allowed to remain in the United States.
Chairman Michael Farris commented, according to a press release: “It’s refreshing to see that there are members of Congress who are willing to put their support behind this family during this trying time…The Romeikes are doing the exact same thing the Pilgrims did hundreds of years ago, and they need to see there are still people in our government who care for this essential American ideal.”
Congressman Stutzman’s letter was also signed by: Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), Vern Buchanan (R-Fla.), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Jeff Duncan (R-S.C.), Vicky Hartzler (R-Mo.), Tim Huelskamp (R-Kan.), Bill Huizenga (R-Mich.), Randy Hultgren (R-Ill.), Doug LaMalfa (R-Calif.), Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), Luke Messer (R-Ind.), Jeff Miller (R-Fla.), Alan Nunnelee (R-Miss.), Stevan Pearce (R-N.M.), Joe Pitts (R-Pa.), Mike Pompeo (R-Kan.), Bill Posey (R-Fla.), Phil Roe (R-Tenn.), Todd Rokita (R-Ind.), Steve Scalise (R-La.), Steve Southerland (R-Fla.), Chris Stewart (R-Utah), Steve Stockman (R-Texas), Lee Terry (R-Neb.), Jackie Walorski (R-Ind.), and Daniel Webster (R-Fla.).
“The Romeikes fled to our country, seeking relief from high fines, removal of their children by armed police officers, and threats of prison and termination of their parental rights.  If forced to return to Germany, they will certainly face renewed persecution,” the congressional letter concludes.  “As Americans, we have an obligation to stand with those who seek freedom.  The Romeike family should find a welcoming home in the United States.”

Congressman Stockman raffling AR-15

HOUSTON - by Doug Miller/KHOU 11 News and www.khou.com

A congressman from the Houston area has launched an unusual political publicity stunt, staging a sweepstakes to give away an assault-style rifle.

U.S. Rep. Steve Stockman’s campaign is now accepting entries through its website for an AR-15 Bushmaster, an especially popular weapon among many gun enthusiasts.

The reaction from his staunchly conservative district ranges from bemusement to enthusiasm to disgust, but it seems generally positive.

“I think it’s awesome!” said Wes Dale, a Tea Party supporter who was chowing down on lunch at King’s Barbecue and Steak in LaPorte. “Lock and load!”

Sitting a few tables away, Maria Koegel didn’t find it at all funny.

“I think it’s terrible,” Koegel said. “Those high-powered guns, they don’t belong in people’s hands. I think it’s great for the military, and I believe everybody should be able to have a gun, but I think there should be a limit.”

Stockman’s campaign website invites people to register for a chance to “Win the gun Obama wants to ban,” an AR-15 Bushmaster. It’s a straight-up sweepstakes, requiring no donation or purchase. Whoever wins the weapon will have to claim it through a licensed firearms dealer, but only after going through dealer’s background check.

Just a couple of weeks ago, Stockman’s campaign started selling some provocative bumper stickers saying, “If babies had guns, they wouldn’t be aborted.” His website invites buyers to “Get the stickers liberals hate!”

Stockman’s stances courting gun-rights voters have attracted attention for decades now, ever since he won his first congressional seat during the 1994 Republican revolution led by Newt Gingrich.

Shortly into his first term, he wrote an article for Guns & Ammo saying President Clinton encouraged the Branch Davidian compound raid to build a political case for banning assault weapons.

More recently, he briefly discussed impeaching President Barack Obama if the White House decided to implement new gun regulations through executive action.

Stockman, who invited Ted Nugent as his guest to the State of the Union address, represents a heavily Republican congressional district stretching all the way from LaPorte and Clear Lake in the Houston area to Jasper in East Texas. Even for Texas, where gun ownership is generally considered a sacred birthright, it’s an especially strong area of support for the Second Amendment. So the promotion plays especially well with his base of voters.

Rep. Stockman: Investigate IRS audits of Obamacare critics reported to White House

from Washington Examiner:

Rep. Steve Stockman, R-Texas, asked two House committees to investigate  IRS audits of people reported to the White House as critics of Obamacare.
“Government reforms adopted after Watergate prohibit the White House from coordinating with the IRS to target citizens,” Stockman said in a statement today.  “We know White House critics were targeted by the IRS.  We know the White House maintained an active enemies list through Flag@WhiteHouse.gov.  Investigators must find out how targets were picked and what, if any, White House personnel knew about it.”
Stockman based his call on a comment from Redstate’s Erick Erickson. “Remember that website Obama set up to report neighbors who opposed Obamacare?” Erickson tweeted yesterday.  “A friend reported himself and got audited shortly thereafter.”

67% of Texas Republicans want Obama Impeached, 12% Democrats, 15% Blacks

Texas does not like Obama. Over 2/3rds of Texas Republicans want Obama impeached. More surprising though is even a large number of Texas Democrats and Blacks want him impeached!

Texas Congressman Steve Stockman made national news early in 2013 when he declared that he would try to block funding of any Obama unconstitutional gun control executive orders, and that they would be grounds for Congressman Stockman to file impeachment papers against President Obama.

The following info by Noel Sheppard from NewsBusters:

If Democrats are serious about trying to turn Texas blue, they should get a gander at a just-released poll of Lone Star State voters that found 67 percent of Republican respondents support the impeachment of President Obama.
Of greater concern for liberals: the poll was conducted by the left-leaning Public Policy Polling.
As a whole, Texans opposed impeachment 50 percent to 39 percent.
But in the crosstabs, PPP broke this down by party affiliation with Democrats opposed 83 percent to 12 percent, Republicans in favor 67 percent to 18 percent, and Independents opposed 54 percent to 32 percent.
Amazing that even 12 percent of Democrats support impeachment.
Also interesting was the racial breakdown concerning this issue with Whites supporting impeachment 48 percent to 41 percent, Blacks opposed 80 percent to 15 percent, and Hispanics opposed 58 percent to 30 percent.
Again, it's amazing that even 15 percent of Blacks would support his impeachment.
It was also fascinating to see the breakdown by age as people older than 65 supported impeachment 46 percent to 38 percent, folks 46 to 65 opposed 46 percent to 42 percent, and people 18 to 45 opposed 66 percent to 27 percent.
So in Texas, the older you are, the more likely you want Obama impeached.
Something else to consider is that 56 percent of respondents were women with 44 percent men.
As women were far more likely to oppose impeachment (53 percent to 36 percent) than men (46 percent to 41 percent), a more equal sampling of the sexes would have found a greater percentage of Texans supporting impeachment.

Outrage Growing over Obama Cutting Homeland Security U.S. Border Air Defense System (TARS)

Texas Conservative Republican News
David Bellow Exclusive Story

Outrage is growing over news that Obama’s military cuts are going to impact our own homeland security by forcing the Air Force to close a vital air defense system along the ENTIRE southern border of the United States from Florida to California. Word is spreading like a wildfire on the internet and there is even a White House Petition to keep the Defense System.
This air defense system is known as TARS (Tethered Aerostat Radar System) and this system protects the southern border of the United States of America by detecting and monitoring low altitude aircraft, and even low altitude missiles.
Since that original article, there have been tens of thousands of people who have viewed the article and passed the article on to others. Word quickly spread across the internet about the issue, from trunews.com to ReaganCoalition.com to infowars.com
People are simply outraged that Obama is cutting a vital security system on our most dangerous border. At a time when there is human sex slave trafficking, gun running, cartel violence, and terror threats infiltrating, or attempting to infiltrate, our southern border, why is Obama making cuts to protecting the southern border? Instead of continuing to protect Americans from these threats, Obama is declaring that anyone with a low flying plane can now sneak into America undetected. Obama already made a widespread drawn down of National Guard troops on the southern border a couple of years ago. The troop draw down, although it should not have happened, could at least somewhat be justified by saying that there are now more border patrol agents on the border to take their place.  NOTHING can justify Obama shutting down this air defense system though. Extra border patrol agents cannot do anything to detect/monitor and relay info directly to NORAD and the Air Force when there is a low flying aircraft coming into America with possibly weapons, terrorists, human sex slaves.
Congressmen and Senators have NO idea that Obama is Closing this Air Defense System
Keep contacting your Congressman and Senators and demand that this Air Defense System not be cut! The pressure you are putting on them is starting to have an effect.
Several Congressional and Senatorial Offices (including Congressman Steve Stockman and Congressman Randy Neugebauer and Senator Ted Cruz) have already been contacted regarding this issue and there is a recurring theme. The recurring theme is that they were NEVER informed of this closing by the Air Force and that they are going to have to contact the Department of Defense to find out what is going on.
Why would Obama try to keep this on the down-low and not inform the legislative branch about this border security shutdown? The reason that Obama is keeping quiet about this issue is because he does not want the American people to know that he is actually willing to put Americans at risk with his budget cuts. Obama does not want people to know that our own homeland security will be jeopardized because of his budget cuts forcing the hand of the Air Force to cut important defense programs.
White House “We The People Petition” Created to Protect U.S. Border and Keeps TARS Air Defense. The petition asks Obama to Keep the Tethered Aerostat Radar System Operational in order to help secure the Southern Border of the United States. I don’t know who started this petition but it seems like a good idea to bring awareness, even if Obama probably doesn’t give a darn about these White House petitions and probably puts your name on a list of people who do not support him. I am already on his black list though I am sure so I do not care if he sees me sign the petition, and it looks good/gets more attention in the media to have alot of people sign the petition.
For the most part, the response to my original article about this issue has been very positive. There has been at least one leftist who has attacked me over the issue…
Liberal Blogger attacks Conservative Blogger David Bellow for Demanding that Obama Protects the Southern Border and Not Shut Down the TARS Air Defense System
A left leaning blog, Grits for Breakfast, wrote an article attacking me on this border security/air defense issue.  Several people came to my defense and left comments at the bottom of my article disputing what Grits was saying, but just for kicks, I will also dispute what Grits is saying so that all the other libs out there do not make his same mistake.
First, Grits for Breakfast says that as a conservative I should be happy about this program getting cut and we should trust that the Air Force is cutting it because it needs cut. What Grits does not understand is that conservatives are not against government spending. We are just against the out of control government spending on mostly entitlement programs and things the federal government does not need to spend our tax dollars on. One thing the Federal government is actually supposed to do, per the United States Constitution, is to protect America. So yes, as a conservative, I am ok with the federal government spending my tax dollars efficiently to do what they are supposed to do, like protecting the vulnerable borders of our sovereign nation. And as far as the Air Force thinking this program needs to be cut, well, we both know that the Air Force does not think this program needs to be cut. The Air Force is forced to cut programs because Obama has drastically cut the military and that means even important military programs are getting cut. Think about this, if this air defense program was not important, then why, to this day, does the Air Force send surveillance planes in the air to fill in when any Tethered Aerostat Radar goes down for maintenance. If the Aerostats were not important then the planes would not be needed to fill in for what the TARS system does when the TARS system is down for maintenance.
Second, Grits says that our State Troopers and Border Patrol do enough to protect our Texas border. This just shows that Grits really does not even know what the TARS program does. First of all, Texas State Troopers are on the ground and do not have radars all along the border to detect possible AIR infiltrations up to 200 miles BEFORE they even get to the border. Second, Grits only thinks this TARS system is on the Texas Border. This TARS system is on the entire southern border and even the Coast Guard in Puerto Rico and Florida (you know, by Cuba) uses it (no State Troopers there), not to mention that the TARS info is sent directly to places like NORAD and the Western Air Defense Sector which will scramble jets to react to a threat to out borders.

Stockman, Paul introduce bills to overturn Obama executive orders, invalidate Gun orders, ‘restore the Constitution’

According to Texas on the Potomac, Congressman Steve Stockman and Senator Rand Paul have filed bills which would block any Executive Order that violates the U.S. constitution.

Stockman’s ‘Restore the Constitution Act’ is a House companion to Sen. Paul’s ‘Separation of Powers Restoration and Second Amendment Protection Act,’ which was introduced in the Senate.

Stockman made national news early in 2013 when he declared that he would try to block funding of any Obama unconstitutional gun control executive orders, and that they would be grounds for Congressman Stockman to file impeachment papers against President Obama.

Statement from Congressman Steve Stockman regarding his Restore the Constitution Act:

“Last week I promised to thwart Obama’s unlawful orders, first by seeking to block, overturn and defund any action that violates the Constitution. Promise made, promise kept.  No matter his intentions, the Constitution flatly prohibits the President from just making up his own laws.
“The Orders issued by President Obama are not intended to execute laws passed by the Congress.  President Obama is abusing his authority to write his own unaccountable laws.  Regardless of your position on gun rights, Congress has an obligation to assert its constitutional authority as the only lawful rulemaking body.”

Congressman Stockman Gets Death Threats for Opposing Obama Gun Control, Suggesting Impeachment

Texas Conservative Republican News Exclusive, by David Bellow

Texas District 36 U.S. Congressman Steve Stockman has received numerous death threats made against him and his children from leftist gun control advocates. These threats have been forwarded to the Capitol Police.

These threats against Congressman Stockman have come in response to Stockman's strong stance for the 2nd Amendment and against unconstitutional gun control executive orders from Obama. Stockman made national news last week when he declared that he would try to block funding of any Obama unconstitutional gun control executive orders, and that they would be grounds for Congressman Stockman to file impeachment papers against President Obama.

The thousands of responses that Stockman has received have been overwhelmingly positive, but some of them have been negative, even to the point of threatening violence. Funny how these liberals cry for peace with violence. They call for strict gun control laws to curb violence but then they turn around and threaten to kill a congressman and his family, probably with a gun.

But hey, you will probably not see this on the national news because the left leaning media bias wants you to think that guns are the problem and not the person pulling the trigger. And the media would surely not want you to know that liberals calling for more gun control are also calling for violence and sending death threats to a congressman.

Here is an example of the Death Threats sent to Congressman Steve Stockman:

"Your kid probably needs to get gun down"

Congressman Stockman has posted this on his Facebook Page in response to the Threats:

Thank you all so much. Please share this.

I really wish I could personally respond to every one of you, but I have received literally THOUSANDS of messages, emails and phone calls. They are running 25 to 1 in favor of my efforts to block, defund and overturn Obama's Executive Orders, and seek impeachment if that's what is necessary.

Obama is angry at me. Obama's anti-gun extremists are targeting me for defeat and trying to bully people into opposing me.

His supporters are leaving vulgar and sexually explicit emails and phone calls, and even threatening to shoot me, shoot my staff and blow up the Capitol -- in the name of gun control.

I won't back down. I am trying to build a national grassroots movement to stop Obama. Could you please go to https://rally.org/congressmanstevestockman/donate and chip in $10 or more to help me stop Obama's gun grab?

Also, be sure to include me, and our country, on your prayer lists.

-- Steve

Ronald Reagan AG Says Congressman Stockman could Legally Impeach Obama over Gun Executive Orders

Earlier today I posted this article:

Congressman Stockman: Impeach Obama over Gun Control Executive Orders

since that article this morning, Fox News has interview a former Ronald Reagan U.S. Attorney General Ed Meese who says that it is not a far fetched idea to impeach Obama over unconstitutional gun control executive orders.

article below from Fox News:

Texas congressman, Reagan AG warn of impeachment if Obama moves on guns

A Texas congressman vowed to try to impeach President Obama if he moves ahead with plans to control guns by executive order and onetime U.S. Attorney General Ed Meese says it is not far-fetched.

Rep. Steve Stockman, a Republican from the Houston area, called Obama's plans to skirt Congress and implement some controls administratively "an unconstitutional and unconscionable attack on the very founding principles of this republic." He also threatened to defund the White House.
"I will seek to thwart this action by any means necessary, including but not limited to eliminating funding for implementation, defunding the White House, and even filing articles of impeachment," Stockman said.

Meese, who was the nation's top law enforcement officer in the Reagan administration, told Newsmax Stockman would have support for such a move - and a good case.

“It would not be legal. It would not be constitutional,” Meese said. “And, indeed, if he tried to override the Second Amendment in any way, I believe it would be an impeachable offense.

“An executive order without specific congressional authority can only apply to those portions of the government that are under his control — in their words, the executive branch. Now, there are some things he can probably do in regard to the actions of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, or some other governmental agency in its operations.

“But to impose burdens or regulations that affect society generally, he would have to have Congressional authorization,” Meese added.

Congressman Stockman: Impeach Obama over Gun Control Executive Orders

My very own Congressman, Steve Stockman, is working had for Texas and America. Congressman Steve Stockman was first elected to Congress in the Republican Revolution of 1994. Stockman beat long-time US Representative icon Jack Brooks. Stockman has not been in Congress for over a decade, but now he is back after winning handily in the new Texas Congressional District 36 in east Texas. Stockman came in with boots on the ground and ready to fight for conservative values.
One of Stockman’s first votes was to not vote for John Boehner as the Speaker of the US House of Representatives because Stockman believes we need a stronger conservative leading the Republican controlled House.
Stockman does not stop there. One of the early bills he has filed is a bill to repeal gun free zones or “killing zones” because they are just places where massacres happen because shooters know that no one has a gun to be able to shoot back to protect themselves.
Knowing that he will likely not get any gun control bills passed through the Republican controlled US House of Representatives, President Barack Obama has made it known that he will use executive orders to enact gun control measures in America.
Congressman Steve Stockman took little time to respond to Obama. Stockman did not try to beat around the bush or play nice or compromise like many Republicans like to do. Congressman Stockman warned Obama that any gun control executive orders that side-step Congress are unconstitutional and would result in Stockman filing for Obama to be IMPEACHED
“I will seek to thwart this action by any means necessary, including but not limited to eliminating funding for implementation, defunding the White House, and even filing articles of impeachment,”
The freshman congressman, who served one term in Congress in the mid-1990s, further labeled the possibility “an existential threat to this nation” because, he said, the purpose of the Second Amendment is to allow the people to protect themselves from tyranny.
“Any proposal to abuse executive power and infringe upon gun rights must be repelled with the stiffest legislative force possible,” he added. “Under no circumstances whatsoever may the government take any action that disarms any peaceable person — much less without due process through an executive declaration without a vote of Congress or a ruling of a court.”

He concluded by claiming that an executive order would be not just “not just an attack on the Constitution,” but also an “attack on Americans.”

“If the president is allowed to suspend constitutional rights on his own personal whims, our free republic has effectively ceased to exist,” he said.

Congressman Stockman Seeks Repeal of Gun-Free School Zones Law

from Roll Call:

Stockman Seeks Repeal of Gun-Free School Zones Law

Texas Republican Steve Stockman is searching for co-sponsors for a bill he introduced Jan. 3 that would repeal the federal law that prohibits firearms in school zones.
Stockman, a no-holds-barred conservative member of the 1994 freshman class who returned to the House this month after a 15-year hiatus, had been working with the conservative group Gun Owners of America to craft the legislation even before the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School killed 20 children and six staff members last month.
“Not only have so-called ‘gun-free school zones’ proven to be anything but that, they appear to have placed our children in even greater danger,” Stockman wrote in a Dear Colleague letter circulated Wednesday. “Co-sponsoring the Safe School Act is the first step toward protecting our children.”
The gun-free school zones law enacted in 1990 (PL 101-647) was subsequently overturned by the Supreme Court, which ruled it exceeded congressional authority to regulate interstate commerce. A second iteration from 1995 (PL 104-208) remains in effect. The law prohibits possession of a firearm on the campus of a public or private school or within 1,000 feet of the grounds.
Rep. Paul Broun, R-Ga., is the sole co-sponsor of Stockman’s bill (HR 35) thus far. Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., introduced similar legislation (HR 133) on Jan. 4 to repeal the gun-free school zone regulation. Other conservatives, including Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, have voiced support for such proposals, but have not officially signed on to the legislation.
“The time has come to end the deadly experiment of disarming peaceable, law-abiding citizens near schools,” Stockman said.
At a news conference a week after the Dec. 14 shootings in Newtown, Conn., the National Rifle Association lambasted the gun-free zone law for making schools a target for “every insane killer.” The gun-rights group called on Congress to provide funding for armed police in all of the nation’s schools.
“Politicians pass laws for gun-free school zones. They issue press releases bragging about them. They post signs advertising them,” said Wayne LaPierre, the NRA’s executive vice president. “And, in doing so, they tell every insane killer in America that schools are the safest place to inflict maximum mayhem with minimum risk.”
