The next session of the Texas Legislature begins on January 8th,
just a few weeks from now. One of the first orders of business
will be electing a Speaker of the House. Because of the authority
the Speaker has to promote or block legislation, this office is in
many ways the most powerful position in Texas government. The
current Speaker, RINO Joe Straus, has been in office for two
sessions, and he hasn't been a friend to conservatives.

On the contrary, he has worked hard to block a lot of the
conservative agenda. Straus was elected Speaker in 2009 by a
coalition of Democrats and RINOs, and he paid them back immediately
by appointing Democrats as chairmen of nearly half the committees
in the House. (There's a reason he's one of Planned
Parenthood's favorite Republicans.) In emails, some of
Straus' closest cronies have insulted Tea Party activists,
using names such as "idiots" and worse to refer to them.
Straus used his power to draw up redistricting maps that led to the
defeat of some very conservative House members. He has even gone
so far as to openly campaign for a Democrat who was running against
a staunch conservative.

Joe Straus needs to be replaced with someone who's actually on
our side. Thankfully, we've now got an excellent candidate for
Speaker, Rep. David Simpson. Rep. Bryan Hughes had been running,
but he has now dropped out and endorsed Simpson. Rep. Simpson came
up with the bill that would have made it a criminal offense for TSA
agents to perform invasive body searches without probable cause.
(Straus called it a "publicity stunt" and said passing it
would turn Texas into a "laughingstock.") Unfortunately
the bill died in the Senate after Straus ridiculed it and the feds
threatened to ban flights in or out of Texas, but Rep. Simpson
showed that he's not afraid to take a stand for liberty.

He is a true conservative across the board. David Simpson knows
that the Second Amendment isn't about hunting - it's about
being able to defend our families and our property from thugs and
tyrants. He believes life begins at conception, and should be
protected by law from then on. He knows that illegal immigration
makes a mockery of our nation's sovereignty. I can't think
of a single issue where he has come down on the wrong side, from
Obamacare to photo ID. David Simpson is exactly the kind of man we
want to see as Speaker of the House in Austin. He'll fight to
guide conservative bills through the legislative process, instead
of trying to block our legislation at every turn as Joe Straus has
done.

Giving Straus the Speaker's gavel for another House session
would be bad enough under normal circumstances, but it would be
disastrous in the current political situation. Millions of
Republicans across America are still reeling from the shock of Mitt
Romney's loss, and many of them are falling for the advice from
"experts" that if conservatives don't get behind the
push to give amnesty to millions of illegal aliens, the GOP is
doomed. The truth is exactly the opposite - giving citizenship and
voting rights to millions of illegal aliens would more likely be
the death of the Republican Party, and that's particularly true
here in Texas.

The fact that so many Republican leaders across the nation are
going soft on illegal immigration and amnesty is another important
reason why we need a Speaker who is truly conservative. It looks
like it's going to be up to us Texans to help bring the
national Republican Party back to its senses, and lead the fight
against amnesty. Frankly, if we don't win this battle, the war
might be over. We're not simply talking about which direction
the GOP should take in the next few years. The question is whether
the country our children and grandchildren inherit will be anything
like the America we grew up in. The stakes are truly that high,
and we need a leader in Austin who is on our side, and who's
able and willing to lead this fight. I can't think of anyone
more qualified than David Simpson, and I urge everyone to contact
your representative and tell them to vote for David Simpson for
Speaker of the House.

Take action:

Contact your state representative. Call or fax them to let them
know you don't want another two years of Joe Straus as Speaker.
Stress how important this vote for Speaker is for Texas and
America, and tell them to vote for David Simpson. You can find out

Qualified School Officials Should be Allowed Concealed Handguns to Protect Kids from Mass Shootings - Texas Governor Perry Supports

The mass shooting/murder today (12/14/2012) of dozens of kindergarten kids at a Connecticut Elementary School is just one of the many recent school shootings. This event should cause Americans to seriously think about allowing select, qualified school officials to have concealed handguns to protect kids before the police arrive.

A few years ago, a friend of mine, Peter Morrison, was a School Board member at Lumberton ISD in Lumberton, TX.  Morrison took alot of heat from fellow school board members when he suggested that select, qualified, school officials should be allowed to have a concealed handgun at the school. Lumberton is not a big town and there is not a police officer at every school. If something were to   happen, the kids would be completely vulnerable and unprotected. Having a qualified school official with a concealed weapon at each campus would allow the school kids to be protected faster before the police arrive. Back a few years ago, Governor Rick Perry supported this idea for schools in Texas.

Back a few years ago when Peter Morrison suggested allowing some concealed guns at schools, the Beaumont Enterprise interviewed me about the proposal and this is what I told them:

David Bellow, Lumberton resident, said that he was taken Aback by the apparent surprise at the school board meeting about Morrison's proposal.

"In light of the Virginia Tech massacre and dozens of other school shootings, I believe that allowing certain approved and trained school administrators (or) teachers to carry a concealed weapon will make the schools safer," he said.

"It is scary to think about a concealed gun around our kids, but it is even scarier to think about the alternative where someone starts shooting students and no one can do anything about it."


My thoughts on this matter have not changed, and now, I believe that more people would even agree with me due to so many recent massacres at schools.

Think about it, would anyone get upset if a police officer was at the school with his gun? No. Then why would someone be upset about a qualified school official having a gun at school? Oh, well he is not a trained police officer they might say. What they do not understand is logic. A police officer is just a person too. If you can train a police officer to have a gun then why could you not be able to train a school official to have a gun? Not all police officers are experienced. When a police officer starts out he is typically young and just out of police academy when they give him a gun. Nothing against the young police officer, but I would actually feel more comfortable with a 50 year old experienced, trained school principal with a gun than a young, inexperienced police officer.

So really, if everyone is ok with a police officer having a gun at school to protect kids, then why do we not allow select, qualified, trained school officials to have a concealed gun on campus to protect kids in cities where there are not enough police officers to be at every school?

At least 26 are dead in a shooting at Connecticut elementary school today. At least 18 of the dead are children. Massacres typically happen at places where NO GUNS ARE ALLOWED so people are helpless to defend themselves or stop the shooter. at Virginia Tech, college students just had to hide behind desks hoping the shooter cannot see them. You can't stop a shooter with a desk, but you can stop a shooter with another gun. In this school shooting at an Elementary School in Connecticut, these kids were slaughtered and none of the school staff could help because no one had a weapon to take out the shooter.

Gun control does not work. Gun restrictions only prevent good citizens from having a gun to protect themselves. Bad guys and criminals will still get guns regardless of gun restrictions. Then when a bad guy gets a gun and wants to kill people, the shooter typically goes to a place where no guns are allowed so that he can shoot dozens of people knowing that no one can stop him from shooting because no one else has a gun.

Election Night Analysis: Our Nation's Future

I know a lot of you are in shock today with the results of the
election. In the Peter Morrison Report, one of my continuing
themes is that the problems America faces demographically are
becoming more and more intractable. I kind of expected this to
happen, though like a lot of you I was hopeful over the last few
weeks. The root of the word patriotism is the Latin word for
father, and I would compare the emotional hurt washing over the
conservative movement to that of caring for an aging parent with a
degenerative disease. You know how the story is going to end, but
it is very painful every step of the way as you see it happen.
Last night America took one more step towards the abyss.

I cannot blame the Romney campaign for the loss. In the debates,
Romney mostly held the line on taxes, immigration and other issues.
Some may have felt that he was the lesser of two evils, but he was
a lot lesser of an evil than McCain in 2008. It's a shame,
because Romney was probably the smartest person to run for
President since the Founders, and if he would have continued his
data-driven approach to management in government, he could have
done a lot of good. In the America of 2012, being successful and
smart can unfortunately be a political liability, not an asset.
Many Americans would rather the affirmative action poster boy
who's never worked a real job in his life.

Romney is a numbers guy, and so we now know he was absolutely
correct when he stated behind closed doors that 47% of the nation
was automatically against him because of government dependency;
Obama only needed a few "useful idiots" to deliver the
election. I think Romney saw the polls last week and decided on a
risky strategy of playing for Pennsylvania as his only way out.
Just as it was 149 years ago, the fate of the nation was decided in
Pennsylvania. The Romney campaign may be remembered as the
Pickett's charge of the conservative movement, a last desperate
effort to stave off the cruel arithmetic of superior numbers
overcoming principle and valor.

Last night on Fox News, the Bush-Rove wing of the Republican Party
was on the air pointing fingers at Romney's immigration
policies as the cause of his loss. This is false because Romney
and McCain both did about as well among Hispanics despite McCain
being the biggest immigration panderer to the right of Ted Kennedy.
It is amazing, however, to see the Cheap Labor Lobby attempt to
squeeze out one last ounce of profit as the Republic burns. The
simpler explanation is that many members of minority groups are
simply racist against the party most white people happen to vote
for. Take Asian Americans, for example. If any group should be
Republican, it should be this group, as they earn more money and
pay more in taxes than white Americans. They, along with whites,
bear the brunt of affirmative action policies; Barack Obama is the
living personification of why their kids have to score 200 points
higher on the SAT to get into the Ivy League. Yet, exit polls
revealed they voted about 70% for Obama. I'm afraid Karl
Rove's bright idea that these groups will vote in their
individual self-interest (if we pander to them) instead of on an
irrational ethnic basis is delusional. It would be nice for
Republicans if the facts were different and we could build a
multi-ethnic, colorblind, conservative America, but the evidence is
quite to the contrary.

If we can take comfort in anything, it's that the debt and
spending binge of the federal government cannot go on forever. If
something cannot go on forever, at some point it must stop. Like
the remainder of Lee's army after Gettysburg, it is our duty to
keep fighting to the bitter end, in hopes that Providence might
shine upon our cause before it is too late. We must contest every
single inch of ground and delay the baby-murdering, tax-raising
socialists at every opportunity. But in due time, the maggots will
have eaten every morsel of flesh off of the rotting corpse of the
Republic, and therein lies our opportunity.

For the liberals are at war not with just the conservative core of
this country, but rather with God and Nature. You simply cannot,
in perpetuity, take more and more people out of productive work and
onto the government dole. Just as the Soviet Union fell, and Rome
with its bread and circuses fell, this government will fall, and a
remnant of the American people may, with God's help, redeem
some portion of our founding vision.

In probably the most unintentionally Orwellian lyric in country
music, Lee Greenwood sang "the flag still stands for freedom,
and they can't take that away." Lee was right about that,
but it's cold comfort when "they" can take away
everything else. "They" re-elected Obama last night. He
is their President. And we must admit to ourselves at some point,
it is now their country. Just as Scotland is currently
contemplating her own independence from Great Britain, it is time
for the more conservative constituent parts of this country to
consider whether this sacred union is really quite so sacred
anymore. Countries all over the world, like the Baltic States and
the Czech Republic, have been over the last 20 years securing
amicable divorces as the most humane way to settle fundamental
cultural differences that lead to the type of governmental
paralysis and partisan division we see in America today. The bond
between a husband and wife is sacred. National borders, once they
have exhausted their historical purpose, are not.

In this respect, Texas can lead the way. Texas was once its own
country, and many Texans already think in nationalist terms about
their state. We need to do everything possible to encourage a
long-term shift in thinking on this issue. Why should Vermont and
Texas live under the same government? Let each go her own way in
peace, sign a free trade agreement among the states and we can
avoid this gut-wrenching spectacle every four years.

In the near term, we have very important battle coming up for the
Texas House Speaker. Joe Straus is once again being challenged by
a true conservative. Start calling your state representatives now
to let them know that we will remember how they vote in 2014. If
voting is the best revenge, the low turnout of an off-year
Republican primary will offer many opportunities for payback.

Peter explains why Conservatives in Hardin County should vote for Conservative State Representative James White instead of Mike Hamilton in the House District 19 May 29 2012 Republican Primary Election

A Plea to Fellow Hardin County Conservatives;

Please Don't Re-­Elect Mike Hamilton

My name is Peter Morrison and I am a conservative activist here in Lumberton, Texas. Among other things,

I publish an email newsletter, The Peter Morrison Report (www.PeterMorrisonReport.com), with thousands

of subscribers across the state. I also serve as Treasurer of the Hardin County Republican Party and

formerly served on the Lumberton ISD School Board from 2007-2010, where I helped spearhead the effort to defeat an unnecessary $28 million school bond that would have increased our property taxes by 24%.

I am sending you this message asking you to not vote for incumbent State Rep. Mike Hamilton in the

upcoming Republican Primary on May 29th. Instead, I am asking all true conservatives to vote for the true

conservative in the race, State Rep. James White. First, some background:

Why Do We Have Two Incumbents Running Against Each Other?

James White currently represents the neighboring House district to our north, whereas Mike Hamilton

represents parts of Orange, Hardin and Newton counties. Last session, you may recall that there was a big

controversy over the reelection of liberal Rep. Joe Straus as Speaker of the Texas House. This all started in

the 2009 session when eleven liberal Republicans got together with the Democrats to elect a liberal

Republican Speaker, Joe Straus. Obamamania in 2008 had reduced the Republican majority to one seat in

2009, and Joe Straus and his liberal Republican cronies used the opportunity to put themselves in power.

In 2009, hardly any conservative legislation was passed as Straus and his cronies killed bill after bill that

conservatives supported, including many dealing with illegal immigration.

In 2010, after people saw what Obama was all about, Republicans came roaring back, winning their largest

majority in history, 101 seats and over two thirds of the Texas House. Conservatives were thrilled and

thought they could finally get rid of Joe Straus as Speaker, who after all was mostly elected by the

Democrats. They called, wrote, emailed and generally begged the Republican delegation to oust Straus.

Unfortunately, most of the Republicans revealed themselves to be cowards, with only 15 brave souls voting

with their constituents against Straus. The cowards were afraid the Speaker would retaliate against them,

taking away the pork they brought home to their districts or even worse, redrawing their districts to put

them out of office. Mike Hamilton was one of the cowards who voted for Straus. James White was one

of the brave 15 who stood with conservatives. Only 10% of Texans are fortunate enough to be represented

by one of these 15 state reps. We are lucky to have the opportunity to have a strong conservative like

James White represent us in Austin.

This is why they are running against each other. Straus' buddies redrew James White's district to overlap

with Mike's and are now supporting Hamilton as the hatchet man to run a good conservative out of office.

The linchpin of this strategy is Mike's assumption that Hardin County will overwhelmingly vote for him

since he is the incumbent of the old district.

My hope is that Hardin County will give Mike an unpleasant surprise on Election Day because he has a

history of betraying the conservative cause, not the least of which is his support of Joe Straus.

Mike Hamilton Picked This Fight

Up until a few months ago Mike Hamilton lived in Mauriceville. Had he stayed put, he could have ran

against Allan Ritter, a liberal Republican who now represents parts of Jefferson and Orange counties. Ritter

is a lifelong liberal Democrat who switched to Republican in 2010 to prevent the Tea Party from kicking

him out of office. Instead of running against this fake Republican, Mike Hamilton chose to move to

Lumberton and run against James White, whose district now includes Hardin County but also his home

in Tyler County

Mike Hamilton's Sorry Record and Deceitful Behavior

Over the years I have attempted to communicate with Rep. Hamilton about some of the issues with his

voting record. For example, Mike Hamilton Voted to give driver's licenses to illegal aliens. When I

confronted him about this vote, he claimed that he was just Voting to make them carry insurance. I went

and read the Texas House Journal, and it clearly was a vote for illegal aliens to get driver's licenses and

mentioned nothing about insurance. It was supported by the Cheap Labor Lobby and Mike was one of the

liberal Republicans who supported it.  constituent while serving the special

interests.

Similarly, Hamilton told me in a phone conversation in late 2010 that he would not vote for Joe Straus as Speaker, and then he turned around and voted for him. When I tried to call him back about it, he wouldn't

take my calls. This is not the behavior of a principled conservative.

The major conservative groups confirm this in their legislative ratings. Mike Hamilton has a C+ grade

from Texans for Fiscal Responsibility, while Rep. White has an A+ rating and was named a 2011 Texas Taxpayer Champion. Socially conservative group Eagle Forum gives Mike Hamilton a 32%

conservative rating, while Rep. White earned a 92%.

The choice before us could not be clearer. Please join me in supporting James White for State

Representative in the May 29th Republican Primary.

P.S. - If we keep re­electing people who sell out our conservative principles, nothing is ever going to change for the better. Please take time to examine the issues and hold public officials like l\/like Hamilton accountable. I've spent quite a bit of time talking with James White, and I can tell you he is a true grassroots conservative. Hardin County values will be better represented in Austin by conservative Rep. James White than liberal Mike Hamilton.

Joe Straus Opposition NOT anti-Semitic

I am tired of hearing the liberal media try to say that Hardin County Conservative Peter Morrison was "anti-semitic" because of his opposition to Straus. It is funny how the liberal media, and the moderates and democrats who supported Straus, all try to deflect debating the actual issues by making absurd claims of anti-semitism. Give me a break. Peter Morrison did not even mention that Straus was a Jew. Peter rightly pointed out that Straus's spiritual leader and mentor was for abortion and on the planned parenthood board. That has nothing to do with religion and has everything to do with whether or not Joe Straus is for killing babies. Take the fact that his mentor is for killing babies and add that to Straus's own words that he is fine with abortion laws and that he believes abortion is just a "wedge issue" and well, you get the idea, he does not care about the babies that are getting killed in the modern day genocide called abortion. It had nothing to do with religion and everything to do with abortion. But I guess if you were backed up against the wall and did not want to debate the facts then you might throw out an absurd claim of anti-semitism to distract people too.
